Title: BKP's in a Jem
Post by: bucketbot on March 12, 2009, 07:07:32 PM
I am having a DNA style Swirled Jem made & I was planning to put DiMarzio's in it, but am now considering BKP's.

Anybody used them in an Ibanez  Jem?

I don't think anyone has an Ibanez Jem on the forum.

Is it Alder? Basswood? Or is it something else?

What music do you like?

What are you using for an amp?

What DiMarzios were you considering?

Someone a very long time ago had two FP Jem's and had VH2's in them.  :? I think this was dating back to 2006.

What sort of tone are you looking for? :)

Well, a jem's just an RG with a daft hole in it ;)

Unless it's an alder model, then its more akin to the RT

Anyway, either VH2's or Nailbombs seem to be the thing for basswood ibanez's. I'd personally go VH2, though i've heard Rebel Yell's also work.

I have a  Jem 7VHW but don't have BKPs in it yet, and Ben said he used to have a Jem 7DBK.

I am getting a Miracleman set for an RG550 so I can let you know how that sounds when I've got them set up.

Hi, From my Avatar you can see I like Buckethead! However my taste is very varied really from Old School Rock to Metal.

I use both a Carvin Legacy & a Carvin X100B.

The pickup combo I was cosidering is:
DP151F PAF PRO Neck.
DP175S True Velvet.
DP161F Steve’s Special Bridge.

The body will be basswood.....here's a pic!

It will have a Jem neck with an ebony board & DNA Inlay and will have the same Trem as fitted to the 7VWH.

Cold sweat then possibly...

Basically anything. Anything sounds alright in basswood, but yeah, the cold sweats could cover the whole rock and still cover metal.

Tim warned me against a Cold Sweat in a Basswood guitar with a maple fretboard, I don't think ebony is different enough to change that opinion.

Tim explained it to me something like this: The fret is set in very hard wood (maple in my case, ebony in yours) and this gives a fast transient attack to the note, combined with the EQ and ceramic magnet  will not be a pleasant combination. He recommended either something Alnico (Holy Diver for example) or a hotter ceramic such as a Miracle Man or Painkiller.

The original Evolution is in the middle - but it´s way too weak booth in volume and tone. Need something "stronger" to match the nailbombs.

OK, if I was to go down the BKP road would probably want a BKP single coil in the middle.
