Title: DAW Question
Post by: MrBump on March 15, 2009, 10:22:51 AM
Chaps, a quick tekkie question about recording.

Is it possible to jam to one of those online backing track generators and record that plus my guitar at the same time in Cakewalk Home Studio?

I've got a Tascam USB interface, and I'm micing the amp through that.  It has another channel, but I'm not sure if I can assign the backing track to it...

Am I making sense...?

Mark.

You should be able to open a new track on your DAW and just import the backing track and voila -- play along.

I guess that I was kinda thinking about some of the stuff that's generates random backing tracks - the idea would be to record that plus the guitars live into the DAW...

You can always try taking a mono sum or the left channel output from your PC and putting into the other input on the Tascam and try recording it live that way as you play along, having both of the interface's inputs recording at the same time.

However, depending on what DAW you are using, it will probably want to use the Tascam as your ASIO driver to get the mic's audio into the DAW, which will disable the output from your PC's sound card.
