Title: RRs in great result
Post by: Bradock PI on March 15, 2009, 04:45:13 PM
My wife has a Daisy Rock - Rock Candy in sparkling pink which she loves. (Sycamore body, maple neck). I am sure she will keep it a long time.

Now she is enjoying the learning I have sneaked the instrument to a local guitar tech for some fettling. At the moment the suggestion is for Riff Raffs  ( music gonna vary from some old shadows, chile peppers, ac/dc and prolly other 70s 80s rock).  However the guitar does have a coil tap and reading through the forums I am no longer sure this is the right choice?

Any thoughts or support ?

I have no idea what to suggest, other than the favourite reply. Ask Tim :) Phone him up and have a chat, that way he can quiz you, and lert you know what you will / won't get from any particular choice.

/bump

bumped this because I messed up - its a Sycamore  body !!

and I may as well augment this with another question or two Tusq vs Bone nut and is an upgrade from a mid level korean tune-o-matic bridge worthwhile if so what suggestions.

Sorry for all the Noob questions!!

You can put a 4 conductor wire on the Riff Raff and get coil tap that way.   I would think Sycamore is quite bright (it is part of the same family as Maple),  and being so the Riff Raff might be too bright in the guitar.  You don't mention what sound you are going for so it is hard to suggest a replacement, but when in doubt go with the Mule!

Tusq is a bit brighter than bone, and is good on guitars with vibrola's as it is more slippery.  I like the tone of bone though myself.

Upgrading the bridge depends on how good the current one is.  Gotoh's are good value but it may have something like that on it.

sycamore can be awkward, but riff raffs should be a good fit. if not, swap with tim for some stormy mondays.

Picked up the daisy today now has Riff Raffs a dressed neck and new bone Nut. One of the guys in the shop was thinking of getting the same pickup and I suggested he tried her guitar he and I were absolutely blown away it is one of the best sounding guitars I have heard and he commented that the action was exemplary, played itself!!! He really was shocked at how good an instrument this now was.

NB the burnt chrome in an electric pink guitar is "The Look"  :)
