OK boys and girls - let's get positive :D
No "I don't like..." sentences in here...
No vile abominations posted for effect (unless you actually like it, of course!)...
No dissing someone else's true-love...
I'd like to hear what everybody does like.
To be honest though, I ain't got a "most favourite guitar shape" really, I love nearly all of them...
... but if pressed, mine would have to be an early 60s strat (has to have a small headstock, and preferably a rosewood board).
-
thats easy
Superstrats.
-
For looks alone, that's easy .... The Jazzmaster !
-
Les Pauls are perfection.
-
Carvin's DC shape with rounded sides.
Quite like Explorer's too, though can be a bit cumbersome if your in a small room.
-
Tough one
I think I have 4
Les paul
Flying V
Ibanez Iceman
Feline Panther - see below
(http://www.felineguitars.com/images/about/PERSONAL-AXES-WEB_000.jpg)
-
Torn between the Jackson Rhoads & King V - on any given day I might choose one over the other...
Actually, I like most "clean lined" V-derived shapes (i.e. ones without extra gratuitous spikes sticking off at funny angles)
-
It's a bit cr@p to say that it's in my avatar, so I'll stick to previously known shapes (rather than the mish-mash of these that is the Vociferator!). I love the look of superstrats and I also like vipers (improvement on the SG shape IMHO). A few other aspects of different guitars made it into the vociferator, but if I were to go off the shelf again, I think it'd be a viper or superstrat (it's not going to happen, though!).

I think I'm close to putting down a deposit on my WezV SG (if he's still able to do it and if I dont run out of money) :)
-
My favorite shape varies so I'll give my top 4 in random order.
Gretsch 6120
Gretsch Duo Jet
Gibson Explorer
BC Rich Mockingbird
-
Just talking about the basic shapes and totally ignoring features and options, I think all these shapes are just about perfect (there may be an element of having had many years to "get used to" most of them, but I genuinely think the designers got them right first time):
Fender Stratocaster
Fender Telecaster (YES!!)
Gibson Les Paul
Gibson Explorer
Gibson Flying V ('58 style)
BC Rich Mockingbird
PRS Custom
Yamaha SG2000
The Gibson SG comes pretty close, I wouldn't want to actually change it but there's something not quite right about the shape.
-
Quite obviously, mine is the PRS McCarty. For me, it's perfect. I wouldn't change a thing, which I why I own several of them in different flavours :)

That's how I feel too & with a middle name of Angus I've always felt I should own one :)
IMHO the Patrick Eggle Tony Iommi signature (& later the ESP Viper) improved the shape...
-
rhoads V, can sit in the classical position with it and no cut away to get in the way when your widdling up high

That is one of the coolest guitars I have ever seen!
-
It is awesome! I wouldn't care how it played or sounded - if I owned one, it would be my #1 gigging guitar!
-
that sword is absolutely fantastic! totally OTT, ridiculous, absurd, but so much so that it comes out the other side into totally cool! :)
i've always loved Les Pauls and Explorers myself, but i like many shapes. even some of the ones that seem unpopular here, like the BC Rich Beast, i like. that's not to say i want one though! ultimately though, my favourite is the same one it's been for the last 18 years; the Gibson MIII

Hmmm, it's..... interesting. :|
I find it hard to imagine anyone actually playing one, unless they're good mates with Joey DeMaio.
There's obviously a lot of work gone into it, but looking at the pics it's a shame the back of the guitar is just boring silver.
-
thats easy
Superstrats.
+1
but i'd have to agree with andy's original post, i like almost everything. but if i *had* to choose.
by the way, is it only on looks, or does comfort come into it too? because king vs are awesome, but you can't sit down with them...
-
Les Pauls
Just perfection.
If i had to pick on in particular though. It would be the Feline Emerald, just, drool.
-
Stratocaster, Telecaster, Semis (335's, 336's and 339's) and Les Pauls. I have even started to like SG's though for years I wasn't keen.

Not quite sure you got the idea of the thread Mr 38th. "favourite guitar shape" .... singular, not plural !!
-

I was thinking looks personally, but I don't see why comfort shouldn't come into it :D
In which case - I'm definite, a strat, never played a more comfortable body than that...
-
Les Paul for aesthetics, LPDCs or subtle, meaning not overly pointy, neck-through superstrats for comfort.
-
Les Paul. I just like it. Although I can't wait to have a go on a Feline AANJ with a big neck, but thats still a LP shape.
-
flying v.. the classic gibson designs: non-reverse and non-pointy
-
Too many...
How I wish I were a 1 guitar guy who has a very sensible taste on guitars like Roo...
LP, SG, Flying V, Explorer, Nighthawk, 335, L5S, 135.........................
Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster..............
Randy Rhoads, Warlock, Mockinbird....
some gretsches, some Rickenbacker, some more things... damn, that's why I change "my next build plans" on each 5 minutes :(

I know but I couldn't decide- you know how it is.

1 - the Original Jackson Rhoads : pure beauty
2- the Parker Fly Mojo : pure design

Gibson Melody Maker! Funky flat top, and check the understated headstock...
-
I love Melody Makers, but I prefer the more unique mid-'60s shape:

-
First and foremost, superstrat, particularly the Ibanez and Blackmachine outlines (the latter is actually half tele too, but the overall effect is superstrat). The Parker Fly and PRS shapes also rank very highly in my mind
I also have a soft spot for a couple of wilder shapes such as the BC Rich Ironbird:
-
BC Rich Eagle, BC Rich Mockingbird, Tele, PRS Single Cut in that order.
-
LP for me.
-
Les Paul's for me for a standard 'off the peg' shape.
But I will give special mention to the WezV build we have.

God, I forgot how gorgeous that guitar is.
Love the logo placement on the headstock btw Wez.
-
Jazzmasters for me. Though i do love the feel of a les paul on a lowish strap. My Hagstrom F200p is a close second though, kind of a mash up between a sg and a strat. So comfortable it's unbelievable.

+1! Now I cant decide whether I'd like one of those or a custom SG

Looks alone, the Fernandes Ravelle:

Actually, my custom axe will be that shape (me drools)
