Forgive me Father, I have sinned too :( 8)
Meet 'Slash' and 'Mac' - my two main gigging guitars with Doppelganger. You've seen Slash before, Mac was a new purchase a few weeks ago. Both are PRS McCarty Rosewoods, with solid Indian Rosewood necks, in McCarty Burst. Slash, with birds, has black VHIIs. Mac, with moons, has zebra Holydivers (courtesy of Simon D here on the forum - cheers mate!). Slash came from Coda Music and Mac from Stringsdirect (Holiday Music). Mac was on offer at a great price, and as I'd decided McCarty Rosewoods were for me, I couldn't resist finishing off my live rig :D
Slash is normally used in standard tuning, Mac in drop D. Depending on the sound in the room on the night, I might swap the tunings over as they do sound a bit different (VHIIs vs HDs). Slash's top is very classy, with very even flame and looks consistent from all angles. Mac's is much more vintage, and looks almost plain at times and highly figured at others (it's hard to capture the differences in photographs, but in the flesh it's lovely). Mac's rosewood neck is alos a fair bit darker and feels a touch more oily.
Both have been rewired to '50s spec' with regard to how the tone control is attached to the volume pot. Mac has had a new CTS volume pot fitted as the original PRS one gave up the ghost during the pickup swap. Both have coil splits (to the screw coils) via the push/pull tone controls.
I guess the username becomes ever more appropriate now! (Even though it refers to my love of V-twin motorbikes....)

I knew it would happen sooner or later
Looks damn delicious guitars Dave!
-
Mac was bought for a specific purpose, and because the price was right. Otherwise I wouldn't have been buying anything. I had to sell a few things to pay for him, plus I had to get a fancy coffee machine as a sweetener for Mrs Twinfan
-
WOW very nice,
Can not keep up with your top dollor PRS fetish. They look great what did you have to sell to get the new one?
-
Very nice :)
-
See Dave, confession is good for the soul! :D
They look good lined up next to each other like that!
-
Damn you TF! I was watching that Rosewood on Strings direct!
Although its one of those situations where i half wanted it to go, and half wanted to buy it.
Congrats mate!
-
Sorry mate!!
I sold my much loved Gibson LP Junior to pay for it, plus my Cornell Overdrive. My Jackson Dinky is still up for sale after buying the Modern Eagle. Plus I have a small work bonus coming soon which tipped me towards buying it. I'd been eyeing up for a while, and finally got round to taking the plunge.
I like well used PRSs (as these two are) so I don't feel guilty when I ding them or re-wire them  These two are going to get even more used :D
-
Nice buy(s) Dave.
-
FFS :D
you have done it again!
-

FFS :D

And I'll do it again if I have to

You've all the willpower of George Best, eh?

You've all the willpower of George Best, eh?
But not the strange yellow skin....
-
I'm actually proud I can almost justify this one
-
Still not convinced by these things... but those two do look very pretty sat there on the sofa :D
So how many PRSs is it now? (And it's roughly in the course of 12 months isn't it? I'm sure when I joined here, that you weren't PRSing at that stage )
-
I now own 5, but I've bought 8 in just over a year :o
The guitar collection has shrunk from a high of 26 to 17 in the process though as I've done some serious selling/trading....
-
Dave
Very nice - at least I know who to turn to for advice when I have enough £££ to lash out on a PRS.
In the meanwhile I'll have to make to with my Greco clone.
Mike
PS - mate of mine used to be the guitar tech at Holiday when the shop was open in London
-
Very nice Dave, very nice indeed.
-
Well done Dave you guitar addict! I hope Mrs Twin still gets her weekly housekeeping! :D
The look very nice together.

All joking apart, I think that's pretty impressive streamlining. I wish I could manage that.

+1
As the owner of 25 guitars, dropping to 17 would crucify me :( There are 2, maybe 3 I could let go, but no more...

Thanks Phil, it was a tough call sometimes but I'm glad I did what I did :)

I'm back up to 27 (including a couple of "in progress" Strats/Teles). Even though I sold 11 last year. :(
I've got a couple more to sell, then I might try to do a "Clapton meets Blackie" and pick out my favourite Strat neck, body etc then sell the rest as parts. We'll see...
-
Would look better like that if one was a left hander - pity your not Ambi :-)
On a more serious note I was rather taken by the appearance of a PRS birds - I bet that is one my wife would like!!!
-
I love how just when you lose most of your twins, you have another...
Now when's the 2nd Modern Eagle coming?
-
Now when's the 2nd Modern Eagle coming?
You must be joking!!!!
Unless you know of one in 'player' condition going cheap...........
-
the gf just got one of these, I think you need one twinfan, a dress with PRS birds!

-
can i exercise my veto on dave posting pics of himself in that dress when he gets it? o_O or, more accurately, when he gets two of them...
-
The only problem with that dress is I think it may be a little longer than twinfan usually wears :P
-
I have to say I'd do it to if I had the cash...
You've got a lovely pair :?
Congratulation mate.

Yeah girls love those birds. That's why guys with >25 guitars may still get PRSs.
Nice collection there TF!
-
Those are some damn good looking guitars!
I have a McCarty with open black coils too, you have a good taste :)
-Zaned
-
They both look great to me - love the colour particularly! I like the McCarty very much - its much closer to the SC245 than the Customs 8)

o_O
-
Right, home now, where's this dress you're all laughing about then...
...
Nah - that won't suit him at all!
He needs to go to Cath Kidston - not many bird patterns, alas, but much more his style.
-
Congrats Dave, what a lovley looking pair! The McCarty looks great with zebras doesn't it? How are you finding the HDs soundwise?
-
What's with all this transvestite stuff? :?
I'm loving the Holydivers Simon, they're great aren't they? A real contrast to the VHIIs, which is what I was after. Powerful and punchy, thick yet defined. Great stuff!
-
in my defence, i didn't start the dress stuff...
-
a birdie told me the dress was in vogue recently and now they are sold out at most places
-
oh, so philly's started buying them too?
