So long as I had a decent internet connection with no download cap, I'd love to have something like that. The only real reason I put up with a big desktop is for the gaming performance and because upgrading parts on em is much easier than with a laptop but this would change everything :)

now that sounds very good..
okay, read through it.. i aprove of that bigtime. cross console gameplay, if they can trully achieve no lag is perfect. games that you're interested in, but only come to a ps3 for example, played on the pc.. superb. if this is really priced well and the games arent expencive as hell, it'll work.
and unless you can make your own server, it'll cut down on piracy 100%. the only problem would be stealing of user names.
one more thing.. you can play this in window mode, because it's essentially just a video on your computer, you can chat while gaming and not bother with switching windows

HahahaHAHHAHAhahAHHAHAHAAAAA! ... no.
ISP's can barely handle all the data users are currently using up, over-subscribed high data packages a plenty without the resources to actually deliver even a quater of what you pay for at peak times.
There is no chance something like this would be even nearly playable at 5pm-11pm... maybe at 3am when everyone's in bed and that lovely 50mb you pay for is finally running at a good speed.
The only place in the entire world where i think the infrastructure to cope with this system is Tokyo, outside of that it's just a pipe dream, at least for now.

Yay for me then. Too bad my idea of gaming is Mario Kart 8)

It's not a bad idea. If it's the same principle as thin computing, which it seems to be, only very small packets are transmitted though the cloud.
Could be good.
Mark.

I still fail to see how you could possibly get the amount of data required to the monitor/TV in the resolution required. This is a few years off yet!!
-
Maybe. I've seen some pretty clever stuff that's around already... packet accelerators, buffers etc. I've seen traders running 6 monitors fully populated to a PC located 200 miles away with practically zero latency, and that's with stuff that was on the market more than 2 years ago.
I'd like to see it demo'd.

Well whenever we can have it, I want it :P

So, technology that makes you rent the games and pay a subsription for all of them, rather than buy them and own them.
Cool. Cant wait.
-
Cool idea, but I'd be impressed if their servers coud handle a constant 5Mbps output per user, let alone an internet connection that could maintain it.
But you never know, with fiber making an entry into the market, maybe this will stand a chance.

Those Bloomberg monitors? I've always wanted to have a look at one of those, though its most likely just receiving real time data and processing it and rendering client side instead of having 6 full on video streams...
I'd love to be a Trader, sigh...

problem is always from the exchange to the home. there are places in europe have a really good fibre infrastructure.
The UK we have some pretty wild technology but it all comes down to contention on the line at local exchanges. the network i use in work can easily handle mulitple real time video streams at 270Mbps, that can stretch to 1.5Gpbs without breaking a sweat.
im not sure if BT have put multiprotocol label switching in place to switch data with various level of importance quicker. that might help. i dunno. ATM, SDH, PDH, SONET, i cant remember which standards apply. but they get some serious bandwidth going.
basically, the technology exists, and from what ive heard, there is going to be a huge push to improve 'last mile' connections to peoples homes.

I just had a big talk with some friends who are still keeping up to date with this stuff and now, i think in only 2 years this would be easily viable for at least 70% of the country to have in their homes.
Our local 'exchange' is currently massively over subscribed and we have 20mb, but we're getting 200ms ping and very rarely gets any better. This wasn't a problem 4 months ago, though. Apparently they're fixing it...
Eitherway, im very excited about the prospect of having a 100-150mb line, just for the sheer nerd factor.

Nah. This seems to far ahead of its time.
I'll still be playing mario kart (ds) and my 360 for a long time.
-
Well I'm just saying, whenever its available I think its a really cool idea.
