Title: Nailbomb Pickup Options
Post by: Infliktor on March 29, 2009, 07:18:12 AM
I am going to order a set of Nailbombs calibrated set open coiled.  This is the first guitar that Ive had that I like how the black opened coils look..........I might do covered, if so Id go with the  "none blacker" option.

What options are there cosmetically?

It looks like you can get black slugs.

Are cap screws an option? If so are there black and silver ones? Looks like I have also seen 2 different shaped cap screws.  One is like a button head and the othere is like I guess youd call it an allen head, not sure, anyway,,,further do those options change the tone at all?

i'd put chrome covers on that one...

but yes, you can have many options... black slugs? i'm not sure. for sure you can have black (or silver or gold for that) allen bolts or black allen caps (i've got them on a set of nailbombs - http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=16472.0 - and while they look absolutely killer there's a bit of a problem with neck height, because you've got to keep it lower than you could want) (i've found the right spot, though)... you can also have twin screws without slugs.
i can't tell you what changes exactly between my standard covered nailbombs and the custom ones of the pics above because i've got them in two differently built guitars, and of course this influencies a lot the tone...
what people generally say is that twin screws add bass, allen bolts add presence and "focus" and cap heads... well, i'm not sure but they should accentuate the effect described for bolts.

Another vote for zebras!

(I don't have them on my PRS, but if I change the pickups they're certainly under consideration)

Of course, reverse zebras would be a legit alternative ...

I was contemplating launching into this discussion with some well thought out counterpoints to add to the breadth of the discussion.

I can't.

Zebras, and post pics pretty please.
