Sooooo...
The dust has settled on my Tele build, and I'm starting to look around at something else to spend my kids inheritance on.
And thoughts turned to my Nailbombed Charvel.
This is a great guitar, really comfortable. But it occurred to me that it wouldn't be such a great deal of hassle to stick a SC in the middle position, making it way more flexible.
The body is ash, I think, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, typical sort of bolt on superstrat.
I'm thinking about making this guitar flexible, and that includes the wiring. I currently have a Scaller Megaswitch installed giving either coils in parallel.
I'm not looking for a particular sound, just a single coil that will blend nicely with the two Nailbombs and be spectacular!
Thoughts?
Mark.

I suppose something like the TRilogy would be "logical". But for something more spectacular and flexible on that ash charvel body, bolt on and rosewood fingerboard...
would the output of the slowhand be enough to sit against the NB ?
-
I think a Slowhand or Irish Tour would be plenty hot enough, especially if you're splitting the buckers in the in-between positions. You want a bit of contrast with the humbuckers, presumably.

if you're not used to HSH guitars (and if i understood well your question and you want to route a SC middle cavity in an HH guitar) i'd suggest you not to do it... middle CS is a pain in the butt as regards playability (personally i keep picking mine...) and the output is generally too different to be of real use in the same song... if you've already got a tele why on earth you should use a single guitar to do what two guitars can do better?
-
Not really a stranger to a middle SC - the Charvel came with one originally, I changed the pickguard to accommodate just the 2 Nailbombs - but I'm kinda missing the Strat vibe that the guitar used to have. So all routed nicely.
Was just wondering what SC would sit well between 2 Nailbombs...

i've got a sort of love-hate relationship with the sultan sitting uncomfortably between two much nastier painkillers in my ibanez S470... love because it sounds very straty and so fulfills my limited needs for a "real" single coil (the only one in my guitar park...), hate for the reasons i exposed above... it sounds very thin compared to the ferocious snarl of the PKs, but i think its bright tone could complement well a set of nailbombs. theoretically it should be quite warm due to the AII magnets, but it's razor-sharp, maybe because of the baseplate...

Awww, you got me thinking now... is it worth doing..?
To be honest, I can get some very stratty tones with my Tele - maybe an extra SC in my Charvel is unnecessary..?

Irish tours come immediately to mind.

NB and IT seems to be a popular match around here, but for a more orginal / spectacular result on an ash body, I was thinking the SlowH will had something more different in voice AND being more flexible (as asked) than the IT, on that guitar...

Mark,
Perhaps you just need a whole new project...or buy one of your brother-in-laws Les Pauls. I'm sure he would give you the mates rate on the Red Deluxe....you could probably sink some P-90's in there, which I'm sure you'll agree will sound better than any single coil you could put in your Charvel. Or I might just be stirring up trouble 8)
-
Definitely stirring up trouble, Brian.
Loving the goldtop in your avatar though...
-
... by the way, what are "mates rates" on the LP..? Just curious...
-
I guarantee to beat any verifiable price. Used excellent condition......on EBay over 1K......so definitely less than that maybe if you catch me in the right mood XX% less. I'm sure we could definitely work something out...
-
... I suspect that you'll need to have a word with my wife about that...
By the way, welcome to the forum!
