Title: Err, I seem to have joined a new band by osmosis!
Post by: Twinfan on March 31, 2009, 09:41:01 AM
Osmosis:  A gradual, often unconscious process of assimilation or absorption

I went out for a curry last night with YC/DC?, minus 'Bon'.  It turns out that 'Malcolm' and 'Phil Rudd' had been talking and apparently I've joined a new band!

YC/DC?, minus Bon, is going to form a blues band.  We all sing, so the four of us will take turns on lead and do backing vocals.  There are a lot of blues venues in the North West so it's fairly easy to get onto the circuit.  We're looking at doing pure blues stuff like Johnny Winter or BB King, but also the slightly rockier 12-bar stuff by The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix and even something like "The Jack" by 'DC.

We're really limited to the amount of gigs we can do with Bon as YC/DC? as he's spread across a few bands, some of which he's more into musically.  We've decided we're wasting our talents at playing together so infrequently at the moment, and we fancy playing some different songs!

Could be interesting.....

blues in the north west is so good.

Citadel in St Helens, Burnley R&B festival, Colne R&B festival, Southport Jazz Festival + a tonne of venues.
even though i play and mostly listen to hardcore, those places take me back... and make me want to learn harmonica again.

Cool :)

From what I've heard it's normally hard to get into a band, I hope it works out for you!

YC/DC? (very occasionally)
Doppelganger (as often as possible, currently on the way up)
The new blues band (fairly regularly hopefully)

Sounds like a great new project Dave,  :)

It will be interesting to see where this stage of ( parallel ) musical evolution takes you.   All the best with your latest adventure .  :)

Dave - does this mean you'll need a new gigging set up for the new band? Sounds like it to me  :P

Nice one Dave, a blues band sounds like fun. I dunno how you do it though - I'm struggling to form one band at the moment (although that may have something to do with me and the other guitarist both wanting to play a very wide variety of stuff)!

Nah, he's got the CS Tele and they "vintage-type" martamp(s) (one or two? can't recall ) he got a while back.

If he were to put 50 Blackguards, or possibly even Piledrivers, in that tele with a four-way switch, he could do ANYTHING he needs for that gig :D

(it might even be the stock CS pups will do already).

Amen to that, Andy - I can't BELIEVE how versatile my new Tele is.

I'm with you Dave - I'm starting to think that I really need to get myself some band action...  been a while though.  And I think that my wife WOULD divorce me...

Mark.

I've had a think about the blues rig already guys

The CS Tele isn't being modded as it doesn't need it.  Stock is awesome, it can't get any better.  I'm really attached to that guitar so it won't be going out for every gig.  Maybe the odd one here and there.

Jon (the second guitarist) will be using a Yamaha SG, and possibly his Gretsch Malcolm Young model, with his Marshall DSL50 1/4 stack.

I'm thinking my Martamp Orion, my Squier Esquire, the new custom build Thinline Tele and a couple of cables is all I'll need........

Go for it Dave! 3 bands sounds like good fun to me. They are as hard as hell to get going and then 3 come along all at once so that can't be bad. You need a 335 now with Stormys. Two even, one with un-potted Stormys!

:D

I can just picture it - confessions of a musician

Twinfan exclaims " what do you mean three gigs at three venues this Friday"!!!

Agent smarmily " Oh but Twinny my boy you are a genious you can do the costume changes in the car and you have enough gear to set up all three"

Twinfan "but my fingers will never take it, I will burn out"

Agent " I have witch hazel and plastic skin you will be fine, just don't get the sets mixed up"

Twinfan "Ok it can't hurt"

Friday night at the local A&E

Casualty Nurse " OMG look at those fingers the're shreded"

Surgeon Phil - shaking his head " I may be able to save one or two but I think this boys guitars will be on ebay next week"

Casualty Nurse " so sad for such a promising talent "

Surgeon Phil " yes but if it wasn't so sad our ratings would crash "

Daily Blurb - The Agent was found strangled by D'addario 52s after he had been stunned by a PRS custom, police suspect foul play, the nature of the wounds suggest they are looking for a three fingered man.
