Title: weird question about digital effects and digital amps
Post by: CaptainDesslock on April 02, 2009, 01:03:17 PM
This is an odd question,

But real quick (have to leave for work, now!) plug strat into Digitech Rp150, Rp150 into a Vox Da5 Modeling amp and wazzam....no signal, its like the Da5 won't recognize whatever is coming through the Rp150, I get a signal fine when its just the guitar into the amp, and I get a signal when I play through the Rp150 into the aux input.  Is there any reason why it wouldn't pickup up the signal through the input? I was thinking of getting a roland street cube but I don't know if there's something about amps with digital effects not recognizing digital effects pedals or something like that and the only local guitar shop I can get to is shitee so I can't really try one out.

-thanks

My guess would be a loading incompatibility the output of the RP 150 does not like the input loading of the DA5 - the loading on the Aux socket is likely to be friendlier. (namely higher impedence). It may be that a safety cut out on the RP150 is too sensitive and cutting out before there is a real problem.

I shall say this only once. It will fix all your problems. Read very carefully, Desslock!

Take guitar
Plug cable in guitar
Plug other end of cable in amp your choice
Play!

Strange one that.  Does the the RP150 different output options?  Like for combo, stack, line, headphones?

Any ouput should give a sound, even if not optimised for the input. Summats fishy about this. I still say drop the FX!

I have an RP350 and it has a mixer/amp output button on the back - could this be the problem (i.e. wrong one engaged)

no, but I appreciate the help, BKP forums is the best

Actually yes that was the problem! the only other bugger was the hellaciously shiteety tone I got when playing through the input as since the Da5 amp is a modeler itself your any setting you have it on colours the signal.....

Now that that problem is solved all I need to know if is the Roland Cube Street has a "clean" unmodified channel that will not fudge up my Rp150 sound or my fuzz factory...err I'm pretty sure i've seen it used by harmonica players and keyboardists so it must have a clean something

This my friends is why you do not upgrade from a squier strat to a custom guitar and leave no money to purchase anything else....errr whoops...hehe.....

downloaded the street cube manual and it does have a clean instrument line so I can run my effects at will uncoloured...mwhahahahaha! my battlestation is starting to finally take shape!

Yeah, they have a 'PA' in or something like that, I've seen people use them on the street for annoying me with their laughable religious beliefs.

If those loud mouth morons can figure it out, i'm sure you'll have no problem!

Ya know, that could be rather insulting to some people here. Not the place for bigottry.

Hey Desslock my Fuzz Factory sounds awful through my MicroCube or any other modeller and SS that I've tried.. you should try it through a valve amp and just hear the difference. Its lovely

i know i know, but all my of this years extra spending money is already budgeted out for my guitar, a new camera and a handful of guitar accessories..........if I got a decent valve amp i'd have to get an attentuator as well in my living conditions and too much moolah to speak....plus Muse are going on tour this fall and so even less money I will have!

My pet project right now is not focused at all on getting uber tone even though I got a custom Legra (that was simply my heart's desire!) but on building an ultra portable rig...and the cube street is the only amp I know of that has 3 inputs, 2 instrument/mic inputs and an aux input, so you could run the guitar, mic, and backing track all through one portable amp.  Thankfully at the very least the guitar input can be set to a pure channel so it won't be coloured over with a different tone even though I know it would sound alot better through a valve.  I was thinking of maybe a VoxVt but those things have no aux input and are rather heavy little bar-stewards

Yea I heard about their tour hopefully it's the new album they'll be playing I seen them twice on their last tour great act. We played Osaka Jam/ Drum n bass at our first gig last Saturday it was pretty good considering we all only played twice together before the night!

That cube street looks interesting I would test whatever mic your using on it before you buy one though as I tried a cheap mic through my micro-cubes mic channel and it wasn't nice all depends on the mic I guess..

About the volume issue my Laney VC30 sounds nice and full on 1 and isn't too loud at all but the speaker has a low db rating compared to others 96db I think!

yeah I played it on guitar with a digitech whammy IV set down an octave learnt it by ear off the royal albert hall bootleg of it ( they seem to change it around alot ) pretty cool all the videos I've seen of us were bad quality but I was thinking of doing a youtube lesson of the song  :D
