Hey guys,
I'm in the states visiting my buddy Misha (aka "Bulb"), and picking up an Axe-FX Ultra in the process. We started a hardcore/metal side-project called Snuggles, just for funsies, and bashed out a couple of tracks using the Axe for the guitar tones.
The guitar used is Misha's Blackmachine B6, with its set of Cold Sweats.
Without further ado:

Hope you all like it, we will get someone to add some lovely screamy vocals in due course.
Cheers!

Sounds great love that organic compression they give thanks for drilling me to get them in ever post i had!

an exclamation, a consideration and a question. in order:
1) HOLY shite!
2) tone is jaw-dropping, and playing as well... it's not my genre of choice but riffing is also killer.
3) have you used the AxeFX directly into DA or computer or just as a preamp like hunter does?
-
hey nolly, why does bulb have 4 axe fx's? the only thing I can think of is he's avoiding the lag in patch switching, I heard fredrick from meshuggah has a separate axe fx for lead sounds because he doesn't like the lag
-
Super.

Glad you guys like it!

This is direct into the DA, no post-eqing or anything.

Hahaha, that was part of our April Fool's joke. He only has one, the others are for the two guitarists of The Safety Fire and myself. :)
-
lol I was thinking maybe it was 2 each for 2 guitarists, as if the lag was such an issue he'd just have 2 with the same patches on, switch the patch on the one not in use and then switch to it with an A/B box when he needed it... I've so thought this through way too much!
so what do your patches look like? wasn't bulb's a recto and a soldano or am I thinking of someone else?
are you using your own cab impulse? I'm using an engl one in revalver that I got off some amp modelling forum, I wish someone would make a g12k100 impulse!!!
-
That sounds great, those Axe FX are something else! :D

The patch uses a VH4 and a JCM800 running into the German 4x12 and 75watt 4x12, boosted with the boutique OD I think.. I knocked it up fairly quickly. Misha's patches use single amp models, usually the recto I think.
That sounds great, those Axe FX are something else! :D
Cheers Johnny!

Very nice! What drum program are you using?
-
Incredible man, you and Bulb are wicked.
-
Those tones are great! You have an extremely 'sterile' style of playing if you know what I mean?- Super-tight, and sometimes slightly dissonant. It sounds like it's been quantized!
I really like it (and somewhat envy it); good job!

Thanks, this is Superior for the kick and snare, and Superior 2.0 for cymbals and toms.

Thanks dude!

Cheers mate, not sure I'd describe it as "sterile" but I know exactly what you're getting at. I assure you there's no quantising on the guitars or bass though!
-
Sounds great, really nice tone and obviously the playing is awesome. Wish I could afford an AxeFx.
-
Nolly + Bulb = Epic Win
-
Sounds awesome man, added you to my myspace too.
-
Glad people are liking these clips! :)
There's been another song added to the myspace since I made this thread, called Philistine. Same guitar sound though.
-
Wow, can you PM me the highgain patches you used there? Would love to try them out!
-
Not my thing, but thats a good recording :)

I have no idea how to transfer the patch to my computer, but I can tell you that it's the VH4 and JCM800 models running through a German 4x12 and a 4x12 T75 cab respectively, with one of the TS808 models driving it.
Not my thing, but thats a good recording :)
Fair enough, thanks!
-
This sound really kicks bad asses, and the drums are great too !!!
Love it !
Congratulations
what tuning and string gauge are you using to get that wicked sound ?
-
Thank you mate, the guitar had (fairly old) D'addario 10-52s on, and was tuned to drop C.
-
Have you ever thought to try 11-52's?
The 10's feel like rubber bands to me now
-
holy shite.. this clip blew my mind away  awesome dude!

Yeah, Misha definitely goes for a lighter tension than I do, but it's a big part of his sound, and fwiw, light strings picked lightly will sound just as huge as big strings picked hard when recorded, perhaps even huger as a result of the richer harmonic overtones you get.
I use the same 10-52 gauges a whole step higher, in E standard and drop D. Even with the tuning dropped to compensate, I simply don't like the feeling of unwound strings much bigger than 10s. I'd rather deal with floppy thinner strings.
holy shitee.. this clip blew my mind away  awesome dude!
Glad you liked it!

That was nothing like listening to clips from a forum.
I really liked all of that - totally outstanding my good man.

Nice one, cheers Martin!
Somehow I read your screen name as "Goody", possibly a remnant of the horror of seeing that the late Jade is having a musical made about her.

Gooby is from my love of Sponge bob lol Goober was gone

'Jade goody the Musical' (quick pass a bucket) Yes I saw that news item. I agree with Parkinson, she is everything thats wrong with modern British culture. A vile racist who contributed nothing except the death of brain cells across the UK every time she opened her gob.
On a lighter note at my advanced age lol, I am checking out Sikth, Meshuggah etc on the back of listening to your clips Nolly. I hope you get a good singer soon you deserve it m8.
