Happy with the MQ in the neck. I need something way tighter bass-wise in the bridge. This guitar is unusually full, bass to low mids for a Wolfgang, not at all bad, outstanding monster tone. Bridge pickup must have plenty of output and blend well with the MQ. Versatile from cleans up to say, Killswitch rhythm tones is about max. Will be used mostly with the MQ, 3-way in the center position, gritty clean to mid gain.
I'm thinking Cold Sweat or Nail Bomb. Anything else I should be considering? The MQ has a LOT of volume, I most def. need something with plenty of wallop so there's no volume drop switching from the neck only switch position. Tone pot will be push-pull, tone circuit will be cut out entirely when not in use. (.022mfd)

Hmm before i read the second half i thought cold sweat or nailbomb that was my biggest debate for awhile i went with cold sweat's because i wanted huge clarity and like that ceramic bite it you want more of a alinco smooth tone i would go with the nailbombs!
-
LOL - My Tele s/b ready this weekend, CS neck, NB bridge. I guess that will give me a good idea!
-
True that! well since you will have a nailbomb already why not try the cold sweat bridge?

Thanks...I really don't want to buy a CS and then have everyone tell me "Dude, you should have so totally gone with a PK, what were you thinking?"
-
Well i would consider a couple things since the debate for my pickup was nailbomb, CS & painkiller (which was Tim’s choice for me)
1. What type of tone are you trying to achieve?
2. What attributes to your guitar to do you want to enhance or cut?
3. what type of wood ceramic & mahogany is heaven for me but per say warpig and mahogany could have some trouble with each other if the guitar has boomy bass.
4. output?
5. Analyze your playing and see what you like do you use soft legato playing or dig into accent's with alternate picking, pickups are like necks to me they need to feel as good as there going to sound.
if anyone has anything they think they should add go for it! all i could think of at the moment.
These might help you get closer to the right pickup.

OK - Now I'm thinking about taking the CS out of the neck of my Tele and putting it in the bridge of the Wolfie, and getting another MQ for the neck of the Tele.....
IT'S A SICKNESS I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!
So..........I would have a Nail Bomb / MQ Tele, swamp ash body....shoot, I gotta merge these threads.....
-
i think a cold sweat set will only make you happy in the wolfgang...
-
Agreed

I am really digging the MQ in the neck of the Wolfgang, just gotta figure out how to lower the bass side a wee bit (direct mount)
So what I see happening is an MQ in the both - The Tele is a USA Custom swamp ash, s/b super bright. I'll find out in a few hours at full volume.

Sorry....Cold Sweat in the neck is a turd. It's gone. I will try it in the bridge of the Wolfgang, but not for awhile because I now desperately need a neck pickup for the Tele, so I'm pulling the MQ from the Wolfgang. Not happy, just added a guitar and some how I end up down two...
If this doesn't work, I'm going back to Wolfgang #1 ONLY..... Aaaaaaaargh! I'm going to play trombone instead.

Sorry to hear your pain :(
Pick up the phone and call Tim, if anyone can get you there he can.
-
Yeah, apparently a busy day on the phones, I kept getting the machine. I sent Tim an email.
-
It's bank holiday, Easter Monday! I shouldn't think there's anyone in at BKP.
-
Aaaaah...... no wonder. Work day here.

Patience!!!!

OK, cannibalized the Wolfgang for the MQ, and put it in the new Tele. Sounds like a winner on the home rig....we shall see for sure tonight at practice.
