Title: Anyone tried V-Picks?
Post by: hunter on April 10, 2009, 10:43:13 AM

Who has used/is using them? I read some good stuff about them elsewhere.

Anyone got any experience?

I've seen them before and out of all the "boutique" type picks they really interest me..

Too bad they are hard to find in the UK.  :(

They ship for 5$ to UK.

I tried them.

The small pointed was okay but I still prefer the Jazz pick.
The rounded ones are not my cup of tea at all. I found it difficult to get a great tone on single strings as they seemed to slip over the string to easily.

A transparent pick would be hard to find anywhere.

I see an issue in their business model seeing as the case costs less than most of their products individually.

Why would I want to spend an inordinate sum on one plectrum when I can have twelve of them for less than the cost of one?

^That one sounds like something someone would give you as a novelty rather than something you would use seriously. 3mm is plenty.

I would lose these so often they would carpet my floor inside a week.

Well, how about getting one of those that glow in the dark then? Should be easy to find, just turn the lights of, and should be great for finding them on a dark stage.

... got a small pointed 2.75mm, small pointed thin, HAD a glow in the dark small pointed but I lost that unfortunately... and a psycho (5.85mm). Coming from Jazz III's and more recently the Ultex Jazz III's, I really dig the small pointed ones as they seem to be "shock-resistant" on the wrist. As for tone... I like it as it's different.
When it comes to the psycho, I have to "really lighten" my picking to get the same attack I get from other picks.
Before I lost my glow in the dark, i lent it to a friend who played at a venue with black lights and it glowed throughout their set!

I do care about the types of picks I use however forgive my skepticism- quote from website description 'Huge tone. Creamy highs, fat bottom end. Very fast action.'

Yeah, but in the dark I wont be able to see anything else!

are they true bypass?

no, seriously, they're cool, but i actually have no need to replace my standard heavy dunlops... if only they weren't pink!  :(

By the way there is a cool thread about who (famous) uses which picks:

Interesting, so many Tortex .73s, I find them too thin, don't you?

Nice to see a few proper players (Robben Ford, Al Di Meola, Blues Saraceno) use Fender Heavies.  I always wonder if I'm missing something when so many people on the forum go on about using Jazz IIIs or whatever they're called.

who made that thread seemed to forget that dheim uses (endorses) dunlop 1.14 mm picks in gay pink.  no, they're a bit more on the violet side, looking closer...
BKP picks aren't bad either!

cheers for the link hunter, I'm gunna get some yngwie picks!!!

I'm looking at the dunlop pick site and I'm starting to feel that they only make so many to confuse you and make you buy more to try and find the ultimate pick!

I'm still stuck on 2mm dunlop big stubbies, it's basically a stiff jazz III xl with a smoother tip surface and a tiny bit of angle so they come off the string easier but still have a decent amount of attack, the buggers are also easy to wear out!

Just received my Medium Pointed V-Pick. Had ordered some other stuff from Tone Toys and threw one of these in.

Sounds really fat and in fact I had to turn gain down on the XTC. Too early to tell but I really dig the feel of the big and chunky pick. Surprisingly it works also great on clean strumming.

Let me have a few more days with it and I'll let you know how I get on.

I got the small pointed and liked it a lot, so I ordered more!

Medium pointed is my favorite  :D

My only issue is that if it gets really hot and my hands sweat, the pick will slip.

I'm pretty sure that would happen with most picks though

I really love it. With that pick, the PRS and the Bogner, the tone is unbelieveable!!!

Would be without the pick too, but even more so :O)

I wondered how hetfield could not struggle on One last beat with those heavy alternate picking on the big E string with a 0.88 and 10-46 gauge on gibson's shortscales axes.

doesn't james hetfield hold the pick with 2 fingers? might pick slightly closer to the bridge cos of that, more tension

according to wiki he's on ultex sharp 0.90mm now

I'm quite sure he plays with big triangular picks. But I can't find a source.
