Title: you know youve had a good weekend gigging when...
Post by: Dmoney on April 13, 2009, 09:11:09 AM
...you get home and count how many bruised and swollen knuckles you have, and it add up to ten or more.

ouch.

also... being a northerner and living in london, i sometimes miss the northern charm of places like nottingham, where people in bars shout "TALIBAN!" at a passer by of differing ethnicity. a person i know from london there to see the bands was really shook up by that. apparently the bar staff dig that s*%T.

You play with your toes? Or do northerners have more fingers?  :P  :D

Have a you ever considered a job in marketing and tourism. You're really making Nottingham out to be a superb place !

Anyway, enough of that nonsense, tell us about the Avenger's real debut !

well, im counting bruises on my knuckles and half way along my fingers. my wrist in also knackered and my little finger on my fretting hand and my thumb on my pick hand no longer function 100%

still, our singer managed to grate his knuckle off one hand on the ceiling of one venue, leaving 4 trails of blood across the roof, and some nice blood spatters on the floor.

stupid. it was all accidently. i dont want to make it sound like you know, we try to be wild. cos we dont.

the Avenger is awesome!
This weekend i used it with my LP Custom with Rebel Yell set. Turbo Tuner, Dime Crybaby Wah and DD-3 Delay.
I played throught some BAD cabs though, a harley benton (YUCK! a 4x12 with a 2ohm input? usefull!)

Avenger is solid. that + my rebel yells hold back feedback SO well, i don't have any need for a noise suppressor. and if i want to do an extended pause with no feedback at all, i can just dip with volume knob a bit and its totally gone. so good. the EL34 power rather than 6L6 is awesome. It sounds a bit more british than the one that broke down. I'm still not quite used to dialing it in at real volumes, but its a total joy to use and ive never been happier with an amp.

dont be telling these bloody londoners that nottingham is north!!!
Title: Re: you know youve had a good weekend gigging when...

to me its the midlands. but north of birmingham, which is my border. although manchester is northern as far im concerned. Im from near southport in the north west. I must admit, nottingham has a similar attitude to a few places in the north east.

I am in Burton.  What these londoners struggle with is the idea of people from the midlands who are not brummies! ;)

I used to live in Bolton and then Chester so am familiar with the north west, which is just not northern at all compared to the North east

i wouldnt say chester was really that northern feeling, its a stones throw from being welsh. haha. i spent a lot of time around liverpool, preston, leyland, wigan, manchester. those places have their grim nothern-ness.
but yeah, leeds, and sheffield aren't too different. i've never been to newcastle or middlesboro. which can be tough.
oh...Hull, i went there once. CRAZY

your right, chester can be quite different to the average northern town.  I liked living there.  Bolton has typical Northern grimness about it and i swear it rained every day for the 3 years i was there.

The North begins at Oxford :) (Isn't Winchester in the Midlands?)

Your gigs went well then. Glad to hear your happy with your amp after all the cr@p you were put through and you like it.
You must of been playing with plenty of Ommpfff to bruise your hands like that!

I really want to visit some more places in the UK. I've explored other countrys more than this one. When I was in NZ a lot the Kiwis from the south Island hadn't been to the north island and vice versa.

first thing i saw in Hull was a dude beating his wife in the street.
no even a lie!

i didnt bruise my hands while playing, someone hit my moving fist with their face during my friends bands set.
I actually got hit in the hand too, thats what swelled up my fretting hand. terrible.

basically it wasnt really intentional.
have you ever seen hardcore 2 stepping?
well, i mean, i've gone to shows for a long time and i know its origins and trends, so i know where it kind of stems from, but its very silly and i think its better to just dance how you like than do some wacky swinging leg stuff in unison. so people were jumping about like convulsing chickens and i was just bobbing along to my mates band and doing my own thing like i was in some jazz or blues club just grooving along, swaying to the music, haha.

(basically if you search for the song 'show me your gentials' on youtube, i was dancing like that guy does in the chorus)

Then my mates band played some WILD riff, and i got bored of wacky dancers and decided it would be completely acceptable to jive out on the spot with my arms out (like jarvis c0cker pretending to be jesus), shortly before busting round into a windmill of fists and smashing some bearded dude right in the face. he took offence to this and shoved me, but i didnt care.
I also got hit by my vocalist dancing to the same band. he's ignorant haha, he's knocked peoples teeth out before. one of those people being the singer from bring me the horizon. hahahah

sounds violent, but if you take that, and multiply by ten, then you get the mosh pits we saw in the USA. just people being straight up punched in the head in time to the music. people stood out the way. but it was all tolerated because thats just how it is.

im not going to argue for or against it. its just something that comes watching particular bands.

Umm...this is the point where us Americans are like..."ugh....Nottingham, that's the place where Robin Hood was right!?!?!?!"

Hey its not like I expect a Englishman to be able to point out Rhode Island from New Hampshire on a map either!
