Title: NAD - VHT Pittbull
Post by: Jonny on April 14, 2009, 04:47:24 PM
VHT Pittbull 50 Head

Wow! I am so happy today! I got this after a whole week of playing it in the guitar shop (Belfast Guitar Emporium), it's second-hand and I got it for £650 with footswitch.

I am more happy than unhappy right now because it's here at home, so I'm thrilled. However, I'm leaving tonight for Uni for another month for my exams etc, but then I'm back home again! So all is well, in my opinion!

Enough chatter I guess.

VHT to Fryette is one of the most retarded brand name changes I've ever seen. Fryette does not sound like a rock machine

They could call it Teletubbie Amps for all I care - if it sounds as good as the Ultralead I played, I'd still buy one... :)

Such a great great amp, I was such a dumb ass selling my Pitbull to fund a Cornford. You can probably get a Fryette replacement badge if you email them and ask nicely ;p

I'd have snapped that up in an instant, too.

Good buy, and HNAD!

Nice.

I owned a Pitbull 50ST myself once (without EQ), it was a ripping head, really cutting through like a knife!

I've been coveting an Ultralead for years, and I am not even into brewtalz particularly.

But a Fryette? Fryette? A "Fryette Pittbull"? My American Pitbull terrier would sue for defamation if he knew.

cr@p name-change, but awesome amps.  I still remember the VHT Pitbull UL loaded with 6550s that I played in Sound Control back in the late 90s - could get pretty much any tone I wanted out of that amp AND it was during my vintage amps period where the idea of playing anything non-vintage was dismissed out of hand.

awesome, that's a pretty brilliant price too. :D shame it wasn't the same dude selling the cornford carrera, that's the problem with second-hand gear, just depends how much the selller wants for it...

great work on the amp :)

a slight divert, but whenever i hear the word 'pitbull' i'm reminded of this sequence from the film 'black cat, white cat':

yeah, i know you got it in the BGE, just i meant it was (presumably) being sold by a private seller on commission, so the price is set more by the private seller than the shop. and yeah, i know the James guy, he's the guy I normally deal with too :)

Bah don't want anyone thinking it's an axl  :P

I had a Pitbull 45 ages ago that was great but had more buttons and options than the U.S.S Enterprise. Been checking some of the bands that use them - the Unearth guitarist has 4 of the 120 model running at the same time, ouch!

But Unearth do bloody rock though :D

In the future I'd want to snakeskin my VHT and have a custom metal grille instead of the fabric one it has now. It'll be beast.

+1

But that's a pretty good score, I liked the one i tried (though i can't remember if it was the 60 or 120 version), i think the 120W version normally goes around the £1400 mark.

When I was paying guitarguitar earlier they said they aren't going to stock them anymore because they reckon it would be too hard to shift the FRYETTE name.

I was tempted to bid on the Pitbull CL too but going by clips, forum posts etc the Deliverance looks much more my kinda amp. Hope I made the right choice, I can return it if I didn't though.

Look at the text on the bottom left of the Deliverance PCB   http://www.chrissnider.net/temp/vht_deliverance6.jpg

It arrived safe and sound, if you order from guitarguitar do it in confidence the packing job was really good.

I've played the amp for a couple of hours now on 1/4 volume, afraid to go higher though 'cause of the greenbacks :p
It's got the typical VHT super fast attack but a really different voice to the Pitbulls. It feels like a Hiwatt dr103 bar-stewardized for highgain. The dynamics are crazy cleans up stupidly good - you can set it up for death metal gain and roll the vol down for super super clean tones.

I'll stick an sm57 against it at some point and do some clips.

Kinda like this?

If only those amps had loops! Same as the Avenger. I love them but I need some delay at times, cannot have it in front.

Yea, this amp's sounds so aggressive and pissed off. I asked about the fx-loop to and Fryette said there's room for one. The Radial mix looks good though, wonder how effective that would be.

Doesn't solve the issue that your FX will be placed before the amps distortion.

That HO attenuator/reamper could be a good solution for building a manageable wet/dry rig with 2x100W solid state from the downloaded amp, which can be on full blast: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18465.0

same here. I can make do with the single channel thing, and I don't even use FX all that much, but I'm not certain I could do without the loop. They both sound badass, though.

I've seen the writing on the PCB board before, it's pretty funny

I was dealing with GuitarGuitar for my Bogner cab, they offered good service and appear well stocked. ITs a shame they are so far away!

I can understand about the name thing though, I don't know much about the models, but I would be more willing to play a VHT than if someone asked if I would like to play through a Fryette.
Congrats on your purchase anyway, I thought you were more of a mellow player :?

It is a shame though because they were the UK distributor, so no more VHT/Fryup coming in to the UK through shops, unless somewhere else is taking them?

I always ring the Newcastle shop 'cause the geordie guys up there are always really friendly, chatty and informed. I always end up having a good random chat about gear, it's a rare thing nowadays - most stores don't even want to talk to you  in depth when you're spending shed loads of money at their shop. Can't understand what the Edinburgh and Glasgow stores say over the phone though :p

I play lots of stuff, country to metal. My own material is on the heavier side - C.O.C style stuff. The Deliv does mellow too though 8)

GuitarGuitar stock great stuff for sure, but good lord the guys in the stores get on my nerves. The older guys that all came from Soundcontrol are good guys, but they only seem to take on ultra-gear-geeks with zero social skills now  :? It's like shopping at a Warcraft Convention. There's also an awful lot of guys trying to bluff stuff, I'd much rather they'd just say "I don't know, lets go have a look on their website".

In Glasgow, if I'm after something I can't source through my own work or direct from a company at trade price, I always shop at CC Music in the West End.

I bought my VHT2502 from them for significantly less than anywhere else, guess that was related to the Fryette blowout sale, too (It was listed in the sale section of the site).

Yeah it's a great shop, let's hope thy can keep it boutique over "the crisis".

Does anyone know where I could actually get a metal grill made for my VHT? I can't really find anywhere that could do them.
