I may be wrong but 3 wire sounds to me like they're tapped.

Cool guitar... I'll bet it kicks ass with a cranked amp? I love the shape and proportions of those, nice one!
-
the pickups might be wired like an old dimarzio - a separate screen, and one each end of the coil.
send them to Tim for a rewind?
-
Nice - they are the only gibsons that I like.
-
Rewind prob, will do.
I now own two gibsons....after all I say about them...My old Gib Sg and now this one

That is kinda cool reminds me of a weird Gibbo I tried with an odd turn switch(redifusion style)

Nice LP Specials, old and new! :D
I love slab-bodied LPs, even though I'm not the hugest fan of P-90s. My Epis will probably end up with minibuckers or DiMarzio DLX pickups eventually.
-
Don't bareknuckles do a saopbar humbucker
-
Nah, they used to do a mini-humbucker, which would fit in a P-90 cover, but I don't think it's available anymore (unless you get an existing pickup rewound).
I like this look:

 I can't remember where I found the pics, but I think it's a Custom Shop Gibson.
Pretty sure WD or Allparts will have the mounting rings, but I've made them before by cutting out soapbar covers.
Lots of good minis on the market - Lollar does them with or without polepieces, Duncan and DiMarzio (all Firebird types without poles), Kent Armstrong, even the cheap GFS ones are supposed to be decent.

Ooo that blue thing does look cute :D
I have a "thing" against mini-buckers though... In my last band, the bassist had a Les Paul goldtop with minis in it. It must have been a 70s guitar (or v early 80s at the latest), because I first saw it in 82 or so (he was my drummer's brother, and I met him years before he ended up playing bass with his brother).
Anyway, as he wasn't using it anymore, and hadn't for years, he decided to let the other guitarist use it. It sounded VILE!!
I was trying to figure out how to eliminate it from our line-up, when one day the guitarist brought it round my place and went, "do you think there's summat wrong with this Les Paul? I'm just not getting on with it...". I fell about laughing, it turned out he hated the thing as well but was too embarrassed to tell the bassist that his prized guitar was horrid. It was really hard to play (bad pro set-up, I guess, much had been spent on it a few months earlier), but the worst was the pickups were really thin, weedy, and screechy - even through my amp which was set up for single coils!
So me and mini-humbuckers have never been friends ever since, even the look of them makes me hear that old gold top! I'm sure there must be be good uns out there somewhere though
These specials and juniors are getting tempting again though...
Indy, I'd assumed your avatar had changed because you'd acquired that good looking guitar... is that not the case then? (seeing as V&R are still advertising it)

Wasn't it a Duesy starplayer TV before
-
P90 tone makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I like that guitar too 8)

The old firebird pickups sound great, the miniHB's are a bit different, the newer ones are different still. I have a BK Mini-Mule and it sounds really nice but does have less output than a full size HB. I also have an old Patent Number Silvertone/Gibson MiniHB in a tele neck position with a Brown Sugar bridge and it works really well. I used to be in a band where the other guitarist had a Les Paul Deluxe and it didn't sound bad, but my LP Custom blew it away (we were both using Marshall JMP 50's and 1 4x12 so it wasn't an amp difference). If you listen to some early CSN&Y there are some tracks with Firebirds, and they sound like a fat strat, only not with the single coil clarity. My Firebird III sounds great and I would never change the PU. The lap steel that Wez made me with a Duncan Antiquity FB pickup also sounds excellent. However P-90's rule over the mini-HB. Get a junior cranked with overdrive and they scream.
