just got this put together for a test fit and its left me giggling to myself

its a 25.5" scale lapsteel fitted with 10k piledriver tele pickup and a bigsby palm pedal.
tuning is open e. E,B,E,G#,B,E and the palm lever raise the pitch of the 2nd string to C# and the 3rd to A... at least thats how i have it at the moment
unfortunatly i now have to take it apart to finish it off and get it sprayed - it will be a slightly off white colour possibly with a hint of pearlesence

not too much of a problem with lapsteel technique, you can work around it depending how and where you rest you hand

Looks great so far, and if it's anywhere as nice as the other one you did when it's completed, I'm sure it'll be a stunner!

so far i am liking it a lot more than the red one.
the full scale length with not quite as heavy strings feels more natural, it sits better in the lap so you dont have to reach for your pocket watch to play high up... and it has levers that do funny things.
i think the 10k piledriver was a good choice too
another good thing was that it sits nicely on the leg like a normal guitar for tuning - i never like having strings directed towards my face when tuning to high tensions

I suppose "Rocket ship" or "Loaded Missile" would also fit now I have looked at it from another angle. This is gonna look cool nice work Wez!

i was talking with mike about old pearloid covered lapsteels and he mentioned there was a paint effect he wanted to try. overall i think it came out well
its a bit more vintage white than it looks in the photo's

How do work this arm? Does it goes off to the side or will ever be upside the bridge?

push it down, pitch goes up. it has two allen bolts in each arm to control the travel so its perfectly in tune
its currently tuned to open D which is D A D F# A D
with the arms i think i have it set up like this

or somehting like that anyway. basically it gives pedal steel effects without a very expensive pedal steel. I think duesenberg are making a modern equivelnt of the palm pedal and you can get more levers added and have them fold out the way - - - but they dont have the bigsby horseshoe. massive fail!!

indeed, now i need to keep it free from white cat hair and possibly iron it a bit.

I'd love to see it in action. Never tried a lap steel myself but it's veeeeery interesting.

lots of fun to muck about with - but it is hard to master.
the thing i like is that my fiance walks past it and strums ( a nice open d chord) then giggles to herself and pushes a lever.
i pretty much do the same but use the steel/slide bar and giggle on different chords
niether of us would claim to be good at it ;)
just go to youtube and type in lapsteel, it is only as complex as you want to make it

This put a big smile on my face (the sun is shining as well, admittedly) - it's what music's all about. We all get so serious about it, and non-musicians kinda don't touch instruments if there's anyone watching...
But every now and then you see something that makes you realise what it means to humans - a while back I watched a two-year-old strum/poke one of my guitars, and this MASSIVE grin came across her face...
(of course, I could be wrong in this case, and your missus was giggling in a "WTF has he made this time?? Plonker - it'll never sell..." kinda way :lol:)
