Anyone else see it?
The man, his signature LP and a 50w Marshall Vintage Modern quarter stack. Sounded less like JB than he usually does (obviously, with no 4 amp rig!) but I thought he sounded great and played superbly. Shame his vocals were really quiet :(
Can't believe he only played one song (Lonesome Road Blues) and they let Marianne Faithfull play three
-
I saw it, thought his tone was awesome with such a simple set up. I felt the same way about others playing more songs. I didn't get angry but was annoyed that others got more. Doves were boring, Marianne Faithful was pretty poor, Noisettes weren't great and Joe stole the show. Did you see the smile on Jools' face when he was playing along? He obviously was enjoying himself a lot so I'm surprised there wasn't more of Joe. That's bloody producers for you.
-
Where can I watch it?
-
Don't think it's online anywehre yet, Will.
Ian - Jools was loving it wasn't he? :)
-
I'll see if my BT Vision has it on TV Replay :D
-
I effing missed it. Tried iPlayer but it's the short version without him! How $%ing annoying BBC. Hopefully they'll put the extended version up sooner or later.
-
Well BT Vision came up trumps! Bloody hell he is a fantastic player! I've never seen him play before, check out the thumb technique, very nice. The way he played in sync with the brass section was great and a tone to die for.
So what the amp and pickups?
Here's a tone insight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrU20Mko-C0&feature=PlayList&p=927F64928C772895&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=42 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrU20Mko-C0&feature=PlayList&p=927F64928C772895&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=42)
I quite like Doves, they can be very relaxing driving in traffic with the proverbial shite hitting the fan.
Marianne faithful's voice has been shot to pieces by fags and sounds flat and toneless.
-
Amp was a Marshall Vintage Modern 50w and matching 2x12 (by the look of it, not his usual rig). The guitar is the first Bonamassa Inspired By guitar and is stock I believe (Gibson BB pickups)

Sounds lovely. Are they low output pickups?
I just had a read of his interview in Guitarist, interesting stuff.
Anyone going to his live shows?

I thought he came across as very humble and genuine. I'm liking him more every time I see him play or read an interview with him.
Agree on Faithful's voice - pretty shocking!
-
Ian - Jools was loving it wasn't he? :)
He really looked like the cat that got the cream. Interesting comment he made just before he started playing. Almost sounded like Jools hadn't really heard of him before Clapton suggested him.
-
Joe is brilliant live. Plays a great show in my opinion and his most recent album is pretty damn good I reckon.
-
There's a version on iPlayer with Mr Bonnamassa now.

Ooohy lovely, and what tone!
I'm really looking forward to the gig on the 23rd now. :)
-
i saw it, was very good. Bit annoyed (understatement!) that he only got one song, though. I wasn't too fussed on the tone, though... I didn't realise it was a vintage modern at the time, that'd go some way to explaining it, though (i really didn't like the one i tried). :)
EDIT: did anyone see the live Jools last Tuesday? I missed it, I'm assuming Joe wasn't on it? I only saw the extended one last night...

You must be tone deaf Dave that tone was bloody gorgeous!

Joe was only on the Friday show.....
-

Watching it on iPlayer now.
BUT!!!!
The Noisettes are on it too! They're fantastic. Their first album is cracking, although I suspect their second will be a disappointment... I've heard that they're going very mainstream. That will be sad.
Mark.

 I just didn't really like it- a bit too gainy for me for that style of music.

thanks :)

I've not liked a guitarist as much as this since I was a kid.
I've turned in to a Bonamassa fanboy recently

I wasn't fussed for the Noisettes as I don't think the songs they played were well constructed at all and I was really irritated by the fact that the singer was desperately trying to be sexy and attractive, drawing attention away from the fact that she actually was attractive and sexy (her straddling of the drum kit being particularly contrived.).
-
Didn't like the song and I couldn't stand his voice, his playing was very impressive though!
On a separate note I played one of his signature Les Pauls and it was probably the best LP I've ever strummed upon!
-
I know Jools genuinely appreciates great musicians and you could see in his face he was very impressed (his backing piano wasn't too bad either). one of my tenuous links to fame is that the brother of a colleague at work plays in Jools band. I love the way he continues to support live music not many others out there in TV land on that cause.

My mate has ordered one- he said the same thing about the one he tried!
Me and him happened to see Joe in Vintage and Rare on wednesday, he was in there trying out a Gibson Les Paul amp... sounded great! Was cool to see him playing just a couple of feet away :) His guitar tech is pretty cool too.
Apparently those signature LPs were originally limited to 300, and now it's been upped to 450. They had one in GAK today, and it looked pretty nice (the light relic seems to work well with the gold top).

yeah, I get that - but the first album was amazing, really off the wall.

Really like Joe. Not surprised that Clapton recommended him, Joe plays with the same fire, edge, enthusiasm that EC used to in his Bluesbreaker/Cream days but (sadly IMO) lost at the beginning of the 70's. I saw an interview with Joe where he said he often tries for the early Clapton/Green sound which I think he gets (and improves on) more with his 4 amp setup than the Marshall he used on this show - however still an excellent sound for such a simple setup.
I suppose you've got to give Clapton the credit for starting the ball rolling - shame he dropped it and left guitarists like Joe, Gary Moore etc, etc to pick it up and run with it.
-
Just watched it, thought it was fantastic! Jools seemed to be really enjoying it.

He's lost quite a bit of weight.

Am I the only one who thinks Joe looks like a cannibal?
It's his eyes that do it I think.
