Was epic, nearly missed the flight originally but we got there will a few minutes to spare!
First show in Solingen was good, but they thought we were too punk rock and didn't like what our singer did to one of the girls in the crowd during the last song!
Second show in Oberhausen (i think that's how you spell it) was great! The crowd loved it and also our singer did Adolf hitler impressions during the last song and somehow managed to stay out of jail :o
Third show in Frankfurt was crazy, our flight was at 10am this morning, we found out when we got there that we wouldn't be on till 2am!! So we though oh so that's pointless nobody will be there to even watch it. We were pleasantly surprised when it was packed out to the point where people had to stand outside the venue to get a listen. German's sure love their Saturday night/Sunday morning partying. So instead of going to sleep we just did an all nighter so i haven't had any sleep since Friday. Though our drummer fell ill a few hours before the show so we had to get someone else to fill in from another band.
Other fun things that happened or we found out are:
Incidents with POLIZEI
Getting a Mercedes Benz rental car and taking it on the lethal Autobahn
German's don't have a sense of humour
German's love to make you breakfast (particularly meaty) and buy you free beer.
-
You need a week off now mate !!
-
What did your singer do?
-
What did you do to my home country?
:x
-
your singer sounds like he might have crossed the boundary into being a dick..
but nevertheless, i love germany also for some of the reasons you mention. i'm pleased you enjoyed yourself there! congrats

I liked Germany when I worked there in '89 but haven't been back there since
I was in Bavaria but also did the Frankfurt Musik-messe
The Autobahn's were scary though
-
My other half is from Bavaria. Nice cheap beer, great food and sun. Just like the UK apart from the 3 bits I've mentioned.
-
The Autobahn's were scary though
What is scary about it?
At least people drive on the right side in Germany 8)

and they keep in the proper lanes as well. i like the autobahn generally, the only thing i don't like about it are too short slip-roads when joining and leaving.
edit: in the UK people are really lazy about lane discipline. no way this is tolerated on the german autobahn. people only drive aggressive there when its fair. also german drivers don't really stitch each other up as much.
also i think germans have a great sense of humour!
bah :) seems i am a fan of the place

im going to Germany on saturday.

high quality beer and pretty girls...
damn! they've got those too :)

i once had some horrid non-alchoholic beer in dresden.
beer doesnt agree with me.

The Autobahns are a lot safer than our Motorways. I agree gwem they are better drivers in Germany. The driving in this country nowadays is appalling.
Hitler Impressions? Good god hasn't your signer ever seen Faulty Towers!
-
Many years since I have been to Germany. I really enjoyed myself and met some great people. Glad to hear that your gigs went well Joe even if your singer did make a prat of himself.

Funny you mention him ... on his birthday!
:?

I have a theory that when singers make a prat of themselves it's just because they are overcompensating for their jealousy of the guitarist! Especially where it is a great guitarist and a not so good singer.
Glad you enjoyed your trip, anymore in the pipeline now you have a taste for foreign venues?
-
We tried to calm him down in fear of being arrested but i think he was just tired and didn't like Germans too much, even though they are some of the most friendly people i've ever met.
Autobahn is worse than our motorways, people don't indicate when they change lanes and they drive like maniacs in the fast lane, if someone is bombing it at 200 km/h and coming up your ass then they won't stop accelerating and you have to get out of the way otherwise they will ram into the back of you.
Anyways, i liked Germany, fun people. Though i was dissapointed with the beer, i was expecting epic goblets of Warsteiner and stuff, but it turned out to be bottled Becks at everywhere we played.

Now THAT is disappointing :(

Yes, that is a constructive argument, for the rest of your experience in Germany... like that... :

...Well maybe you'll better have to look for another singer....

kinda hard to do in a band called "Jonny Chan & The Nü Die Nasty Sixx"...
(especially as the myspace page proclaims "it's all about me")
I wonder whether they were playing "Jonny spent the night in jail" at the time? :)

Hum.....Clever !
Then maybe the idea will be to change the singer and the name of the band !

Nowhere NEAR as lazy as they are in the US!!! In Florida, roads are seen as "guidelines only"...
:?

Haha, it was during All About Me, he was pissed off at Germans because we had a run in with the Polizei earlier on which he got angry about and nearly got chucked in jail for.

DAmn right - I was amazed at US freeways when I was in LA
They overtake on both sides - it was scary !
-
I think we may be playing Worcester and Bristol again in a few weeks, maybe a local show in Hitchin too.
-
the german-ness, and the coming-home-ness of this thread recalls this classic:

Who, Hitler, Basil Faulty or God?
Joe the Autobahns are 100% safer than our motorways. The uk's roads are all about win at all costs for a lot of drivers now. Because of the unlimited speed limits in some sections of Autobahn, I've found from my experience that drivers do take that in to account. Yes they do zoom up behind you and no they are not going to run into you on purpose. If you can move over you do so, its what your supposed to do here too but they don't here so much.
Sounds like you had a great time. :)

im off to germany from the early hours of saturday morning, driving from london to essen.
i've been swatting up on my hitler impressions and distastful jokes.
nah...not really. when we played nordhausen though our singer said "tomorrow we are playing dresden. i've never been to dresden, but my grandad went once, didnt get out the plane though........."
all i could hear was silence, and one australian at the back of the room going "woohooo" *claps*.
terrible.
