Title: Looks like I got scammed on my new amp :( South England scammer..
Post by: Pierre on April 22, 2009, 12:37:26 PM
I saw for sale a Laney LH50MkII head on UG, at a very reasonable price. I'd wanted one of these for a while so I went for it. The guy actually had feedback and good trades history it seemed, so do I, so all good. I paid for it the 4th of March. We kept KINDA in touch until mid March, when he told me he had the flu and was out off work for a while (the courier he wanted to use was his work's) but that he'd get on it.

Then for about two weeks, nothing. Doesn't reply to my calls (DEFINITELY the right number, I talked to him the day of the transaction), replies to emails only under threat and of course, still nothing. About two weeks ago I email him giving him an ultimatum, once again, got a reply saying he's already shipped the head but it came back, could I have your address again, blablabla ok whatever. After that, nothing for a week. I tell him that if I have no parcel/tracking number by Monday (that was this Monday, as in the 20th of April, a month and a half after the transaction) I'd escalate the paypal claim. He sends me an email saying the head shipped the Monday before and that he'd forward me the tracking number. He didn't. So I escalated the dispute to a full claim and waiting for the results. I of course emailed him but still nothing.

I'm a student, I got virtually no disposable income, I sold pretty much everything I could to afford this head and hell it was only £150. I'd been wanting this model for ages too. And to top it all up now is the last revision week of my last EVER exams of my Honors year. I don't need this.

I have his name, phone number and possible address. He's in a band in the Brighton/Bexhill/Hastings area, I have his myspace and even their touring details possibly if y'all can hassle him  I'm too far up north in Edinburgh :(

Anybody got experience with this stuff, and what I should do..?

Thanks for reading y'all...

Stick rigidly to the paypal claim procedure. As long as it's all within what they lay out there, you should be fine to get your money back. People like this make my blood boil!!

Typical musician

I had issues selling on eBay recently with a pedal of mine.  Not as bad a situation as yours, but a pain in the backside.  Can't get hold of them, off on tour, blah blah blah.

Hope you get it sorted  :)

That sucks dude. :( I hope you get resolution.

I got scammed on a Xbox 360, guy sent an empty box to the wrong address. Luckily it didn't get delivered, and I was able to track it and stop the delivery.

I got my money back, but it was a pain.

I remember a guy here (think Indysmith) saying a guy was arrested by buttheading a guy on street, so don't beat him down...

Hope you can get the money back!

I had a paypal claim once, the parcel was lost in belgian customs and the seller (RS Guitarworks) insisted that they had done all right, still I hadn't received any goods and according to the tracking result, the parcel went back to RS. I received my funds back after a few weeks from paypal.

Pity, coz i really wanted to try those "supposedly awesome" RS pots ...

You'll be fine, the guys on Bass Chat will sort you out. They're really good guys over there.

Heh, I nearly bought that one myself.

You must be gutted. It makes you just want to throw in the towel when you have to deal with guys like that.
I really hope Paypal will sort out a refund of the money for you !

Sounds a bit pants but as Roo says you should get your dough back if you do the paypal procedure so don't worry too much.

Thanks for the good words people... we'll see I guess. I really can't afford to purely lose £150. I've always done good deals, did giveaway and never disapointed any buyers or sellers and now this. I'm usually always a trusty and friendly person but several events this year threaten to destroy all this. Still, just because there are a few assholes out there doesn't mean everyone is I hope...
