This is a vocal-less early mix I have of a songwriting demo. It was tracked live at Ultrasound in NYC using 3 mics; bass and guitar were tracked DI and then I re-recorded the guitars at home using my iso cab.

Minimal mic'ing on the drums and virtually no post was done aside from panning and some minor EQ. I thought the vibe came across great, though.
DRUMS. House DW kit w/the drummer's vintage Ludwig snare. 2x SM57s in an XY over the kit, D112 on the kick. (No mic hole on the kick, which is why it doesn't has so little attack)
BASS. Fender/Warmoth build into a Tech 21 Bass Driver.
GUITAR. Warmoth/random parts tele with VH2 bridge and Trilogy Suite neck. Thundertomate Phil Hilborne treble booster into Splawn Quick Rod (Gear 1, clean). Scumback M75 in a Randall iso cab. Sennheiser e609 Silver microphone. SSL XLogic mic preamp.

I started off listening to the mix and trying to decide if the guitars sounded too separate (mix-wise, not in terms of playing) from the bass and drums which seem to gel really well, but after a while I just got lost in the groove and by the second half of the solo I forgot I was listening to a demo and I thought I was listening to one of the tracks from my large collection of '70s Vertigo albums.
Good stuff Ben.

Holy cr@p, thanks for the compliment, ginga! Appreciate it.
(Vertigo being one of my favourite labels from the '70s)
