Title: What middle pick up for my Super Strat?
Post by: Ian Diction on April 23, 2009, 07:09:03 PM
I play a Cort X-6 and I installed a Miracle man in the Bridge and i've got an Ibanez V7 in the neck. It still has the stock middle pickup and I REALLY want to change it.
Here it is:

Am I being silly or if I installed a single coil bridge pickup there would I get a ridiculously heavy tone? Or would it just be too much? I want to go as heavy as possible but would a specific middle pickup be the better option?

I use an ISP decimator and a Randall RH300 G3.

It is rather odd that you want a heavy tone from a middle single coil.

I dont think thats going to happen...or at least not in the ways that you might expect.

But if youre up for some silliness then put a zinc-steel baseplate Ubersinner in there. 23k single coil that in a bridge position it kills most humbuckers. If youre not that silly then put an ubertrillogy in; 15k and its designed to go there, but not to do heavy rhythm (which youre only ever really going to get properly from the bridge position).

I just want a good pickup that will complement a heavier tone overall. The miracle man is lovely and thought another bridge pickup in the middle would make it a bit heavier, is that right?

Not really. Youre going to get an overbearing low end from it and an unholy shiteload of output and it'll mush out rather a bit. Youre better off going with something thats supposed to be a middle pickup and it sounds like an Uber-trillogy would be best for you. You will not be dissapointed by their power

Yes, obviously, normal price, online shop or over the phone.

I always call em. Its better. You can talk about what pickups to get.

I have a Slowhand with a Miracle Man set (HSH) and it balances really well, the split tones in pos 2 & 4 are great and the Slowhand by itself is top class.

i asked tim about what middle sc i should use between a couple of painkiller to allow me a flush sc setting...
his answer was trilogy.

but, just out of curiosity, why on earth did you put an ibanez pickup in neck position?????

I didn't like the stock pickup and bought one for £8 on e bay after reading a few reviews on Harmony Central. Gonna go for a better humbucker in the future but it'll do for now.
