his tone was so much better back in 05 when he was.
I hate his sound with the Diezels.
-
what's a metallica?
-
He should go back to the Mesa Mark IV.
-
I simply HATE Robert Trujillo!
I hate his look...
I hate his tone...
I hate his musical interpretation...
Apart from my utter hate of him in any band context - Suicidal T/BLS/Met - he comes across as a nice guy when interviewed.
Bring back Jason...
Metallica sound shite in those live clips. None of the passion or power of old.
A flacid old mans c--k... Shame.

"One" is painful to watch.
If you remember what that song/band was like when it first hit.
I wish James would stop with his vocal dramatics / emotional pleading interpretation.
Please James... Crack open a beer... then have another.... and another... And $%IN' PLAY SOME METAL!

The guy's been through rehabs and lost half his voice because of the booze, probably also lost some of his remaining years due to it, nothing to make fun of.

Metallica (in my mind) are still an awesome band, Death Magnetic was one of my top albums of last year.
I think that Rob T is a fantastic bass player but I dont think he fits 'Tallica, I have the same problem with Vivian Campbell being in Def Leppard, it always feels like they are hired guns, they have both been in a lot of bands and dont seem to have offered much to the bands they have joined. Obviously wishing Steve Clarke back into Def Leppard is a little futile however to see Jason back in Metallica would be awesome.
As for the tone issue, I like the Kranks and the Diezels, both nice and aggressive sounding.

just curious but aren't Diezels top of the line custom amps?
-
I like current Metallica too, and I'm a big fan of Rob Trujillillillooliioiillilo.
And I like Death Magnetic. I like the fact that you can HEAR the bass, and that it complements the band.
In fact, I think that this is the first Metallica album where they actually SOUND like a band.

Yes, but they have a bit of a 'love it or hate it' sound by all accounts.

MASTERED BY MUPPETS
End of session day, Rubin works away:
I’m your source of song-destruction
Tunes that hurt you ear, poor sound engineer
Leaving spikes on my instruction
Trust me you will see
Volume’s all you need
Dedicated to
How I’ll limit you
Compressing faster
Limit your Master
Your albums sell faster
With a loud Master
Master
Mastered by muppets, brickwalling your dreams
Clipping, distorting and smashing extremes
Ruined by me, you can’t hear a thing…
Just spiking snares, and auto-tuned screams
Mastered
Mastered
Rubin’s my name, and I’ll hear you scream
bar-steward
bar-steward
Need to mix this way, never you dismay
”Loud” makes death magnetic clearer
Gain monopoly, ritual Waves L3
Squash your tracks til it’s severe
Gate and you will see
More and more dB
Dedicated to
How I’m killing you
Compressing faster
Limit your Master
Your albums sell faster
With a loud Master
Master
Mastered by muppets, brickwalling your dreams
Clipping, distorting and smashing extremes
Ruined by me, you can’t hear a thing…
Just spiking snares, and auto-tuned screams
Mastered
Mastered
Rubin’s my name, and I’ll hear you scream
bar-steward
bar-steward
Master, Master, where’s the version I’ve been after?
Bearded, bar-steward, you promised only lies
Blaster, Blaster, recorded on a ghetto blaster?
Laughter, laughter, laughing at those highs
Spike to me!
Lars ain’t worth all that – “natural” kick and hats
Kirk adds wah without a reason
Never ending phrase, Jaymz goes on for days
Rob, your shirt is out of season…
I’ll record til 5 (then)
I will help you buy
Sandals that suit you
Now you look cool too

"Mastered by Muppets" needed a reposting.. a classic and totally true.
I like Death Magnetic loads more that any album since "Black" but I can't defend the sound quality for a second. Distortion without dynamics.
Ironically, I've read that the abysmal result influenced the mastering decisions of execs on "Chinese Democracy".
Love it or hate it ( and I only like a couple of songs) GnR Chinese Democracy sounds lush and fabulous, proving it can be done on CD.

My heart bleeds...
I'll add his name to the list of the disabled, poor & imprisoned suffering in the world. PDT_047

I don't think its the amp that's the problem, its how he wants to set it - I guess the tone he wanted he couldn't get on the kranks, but could on the Diezels, and it so happens you hate it.

That picture shocked me more than the recent wacko Jacko pics.

Viv was top notch in Dio and Savage though to be fair. though i must admit, hes not contributed much to the genre since those days. (a second read of the quote line above suggests we might agree)
many musicians lose their fire as they get older, rehabs probably don't help (for example - Clapton). anyway - its a sad thing. was listening to 'ride the lightning', and 'kill em all' last week - its not the same band.

And Metallica heavy metal icon is dead !
The picture doesn't surprise me that much, but what would you expect from Metallica today ?
Their next release will be : "Come on, come on, listen to the money talks" ! (in duo with AC/DC !)
BUT THAT ! Little off topic...BUT THAT ! PDT_023

To me Gn'R = Axl + Slash
Since then Gn'R = pure nonsense !
And come on......Rose is far toooooo old to sing anymore, (but maybe rehab didn't helped too  )
Just look at this, isn't it enough ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Im90QHlN0I
BACK ON TOPIC :
I think Diezels are quite good, and if Robert T is a good bassist, to me the main problem stays Kirk H ! :lol
-
to me the main problem stays Kirk H ! :lol
but i must say i quite like kirk as lead player in metallica. despite his problems i think he really brings something.
-
does he even set his own amps up?
i hung around the studio when they were on jools. and stood 5 feet from them while they played. though their own rigs have very little to do with the recorded sound apparently.
hetfield had a thermos for a warm brew between tracks.
lars had a massive thai fella to massage his biceps between tracks.
Rob was the only one of them that said hello to lots of people and had a little chat.
dunno the score with Krank. incidently, i know a lot of bands started getting endorsement deals with them here, and then all of a sudden loads of those guys sold their kranks and ditched the deal. i hear it was all due to reliability and tone issues.
-

Yeah, we can say his leads were interesting and that he brought something UNTIL the Black Album.. :P

:?
i think he's one of the worst (famous) guitarists alive. before the black album he just played fast pentatonic nonsense. now he plays mostly slow pentatonic nonsense. on black album he did some solo with at least a bit of meaning... i can actually REMEMBER a couple of b.a. solos, and that's way more than i can tell of the older metallica albums (wich i liked - not too much, anyway - just in my adolescence)...
hetfield is much, much better (well, at least nothing else matters has got the best solo in every metallica song EVER).
but metallica lost every interest for me more or less when i turned 16 or 17...
now i'm almost 33 and it didn't get better.
-
of course i wasn't saying that metallica can only appeal to kids.
it's just the "evolution" of my musical tastes.
-
People get old, bands get old, tastes change.
Metallica couldn't still be putting out "Ride The Lightening" every couple of years, there's no growth there.
It's like any relationship - you always start on the same wave length, but both parties change over time.
What band has stayed the same for decades without evolving..?
(actually, I'm starting to think about that now...)
Motorhead?
The Rolling Stones..?
-
Kerry Kings solos have been identical for years.
if it aint broke, dont fix it.

of course you're right, evolution is the natural way in which time influences individuals and, of course, musicians...
no band in history managed to remain "true and faithful" to itself, and lack of evolution is something i usually hate in music. i evolve, and expect my favourite bands to do the same. even when a band goes back to its musical roots it usually does it in a way that's far lightyears from the real "old" sound. fortunately.
metallica could not play the way they played when they were 18 even if they wanted to.
my point was different... i used to like metallica when i had little or no knowledge of what happened in the "underground" scene... so i thought they were the heaviest posible form of music... i loved iron maiden but i was looking for something harder, and metallica gave me a bit more heaviness... then i discovered other forms of metal and started to perceive metallica as a weak wannabe thrash band, too pedantic and melodically uninspired to play in the same league with iron maiden and other melodic metal bands (even much heavier ones) and too harmless to be compared to the death/thrash/black metal scenes i was discovering.
in a word, useless.
but i repeat, it's just me and what i looked for in music. now i'm listening to death metal as well as pop (a lot of pop, actually... ;)) and other genres i rejected when i was a kid. that's evolution. but metallica - except for some catchy song - still stay out of my interests.
-
Kerry Kings solos have been identical for years.
if it aint broke, dont fix it.
they can't be classified exacltly as solos... it's a form of chaotic violence opposed to other forms of violence organized and rationalized in riffs.
i like kerry king, this is not a critic!

Youre forgetting something. An obnoxious little shed-builder something. Something so evil your ears boil off the side of your head whenever you hear it speak. Something that went to brick-laying school to learn its current trade and really should have stayed with tennis. It draws its evil power from dodgy paintings and a white leather jacket.
Cant quite remember its name, or what it does....
But regardless, hammet still sucks.

^-1 : I was more thinking some good ideas (should I say inspiration ?) on Ride the lightnening, master of puppet, justice for all albums...
now he plays mostly slow pentatonic nonsense.
^+1 : what I said !
hetfield is much, much better

The main difference will be that some of these band evolve because they sell their souls to Armani Jeans.....and still singing we live in a bad world with sooo much injustice, you must die and burn, back to the front !

I have never been able to understand the musical sense of ANY solo played by either King or Hanneman..... :(

gotta be gutted when your band has been horrible for 20years. maybe its a sign to break up

Its dad is quite a character, yes.
