Title: Abuse of a good backing track or something trippy? Rebel Yell Bridge
Post by: Johnny Mac on April 26, 2009, 03:42:31 PM
I used a blues headlines backing track from Guitarist,  wired my Koch up to the 'puter ate too much cheese and this happened.  :?
Guitar was my Feline Lion with Rebel Yell Bridge with my Koch on low gain with a touch of reverb and emu 1820/cubase.
I reversed the audio of my guitar, pasted it into 3 audio tracks and added a rotary speaker, delay and chorus.

Well thanks Indy  :D I was just clicking around in Cubase to see what happens. Hendrix did this a few times too. Must have had the same cheese as him

i'm still a total beginner, but i've had some fun with it at home jamming. i found its almost impossible it use it in a live situation though - perhaps because my songs are quite short and quick fire.

I was joking about the orange polygons gwEm! I never bothered with any of it and concentrated on the technique part of Johnny Miz's lessons.

Its a very powerful technique, which Johnny Mac, and Philly Q are great endorsees of.

Well Philly Q swears by 3rd eye expansion

I think it may work for really accomplished musicians but the level you have to be to make it work is far beyond mine. I certainly didn't use it in this clip!

I didn't read the thread properly at first and was thinking "that's a good ole groove ya got there in yer rhythm playing Johnny..."

But yeah, er, trippy - it comes out strangely musical doesn't it?

I've got a really good use for flipping audio over: If your song starts straight in, no fill or twiddly stuff, then take a stereo mix of the front, flip it, then stick MASSIVE reverb on it and record that. Split the reverb tail off of it, flip it, and stick it on the front of the song... groovy :D

Edit: Just realised, there's an example of it if you follow the link in my signature. Dandelion Boy (suffered a lot of cut and pasting during it's creation, it used to be a simple rock song in my last band...) it starts with a copy of all the backing vox from the first line of the main first verse, and then it does the "reverb-in" trick to the intro. I didn't realise it would be quite so effective when I started copying/pasting/flipping & splitting...
It was the first serious bit of recording I did with my laptop - got a bit carried away

That backing track sounds a bit like a song of the beano album.
Your song sounds good, nice effect with the reverb.
Some of the software I've been looking at this weekend is mind blowing, there seems there is no limit to what you can do with it all nowadays.

He can be! I had lessons with him 4 years ago. He is really a good player and teacher. He does go info some new ideas but can also teach the normal stuff too. You can do online stuff with him. I posted a load of it in Time Out, its a stick thread about Spiders!
