I just thoght I have a 100+ year old piece of mahogony in my garage it was a laboratory workbench and is about 1" thick I think its about 8' long and 2'6" wide I don't think it is thick enough to do anything with is it?

sounds like a fun idea-like the early early prs

You can make several SG bodies, if you put a 1/2" top on it :)
The top will be a little bit thicker than the bevels of SG...
Also could make some Rickenbacker bass clones, with a top too :)
-
if the cut is right it could be neck blanks or lams

Sandwiching is normally no good for bodies. It kills resonance.
Why not keep the table and make it a nice, rustic dinner table?
:O)

Works ok on Les Pauls when you put a maple cap on top
I think if its really well done it doesn't have too much of a negative effect

nah. i have done a few sandwiched bodies and it definatly does not make a guitar non-resonant. obviously it changes resonance but that doesnt have to be negative. i t can allow you to control the resonance
anyway, i made my first fanned fret guitar with reclaimed mahogany from old book shelves. all 1" thick
3 pieces for the neck through, then the body wings were a sandwich of 1" mahogany, 1/4" maple in the middle and 1/2" of quilted redwood on top

even with the other bits i still only payed about £30 for wood to make the whole guitar.

And it plays really nicely!
