Title: NGD with video link
Post by: Stu on April 30, 2009, 07:53:51 PM
I am picking up my new guitar after a six month wait this saturday and just couldn't resist posting some preview pictures of it.
Its a left handed Gus G1 with vibrato and piezo. The finish is blue metal-flake although these pictures don't quite show it off to the fullest. The pickups are custom wound single coils with a six way rotary switch. There's also a push pull for a pseudo humbucker sound.
Once I've picked it up I'll post some more pictures and maybe a video or sound clip.

Wow! :D

I'm a "traditionalist" I suppose - I seem to gravitate to "proper" strats, LPs, teles, wotever... For example, I can see how PRSs are good looking, but they leave me cold other than the nice woodwork.

And then every now and then something off-the-wall gets posted here, and I love it

This is one of those :D

It reminds me of a saz.

Interesting, different, brave choice. Not what I'd go for looks wise, but I can see that being really comfortable and the odd geometry might have a unique sound.

Thanks for all the comments.

I think it is a guitar that will split opinion. I picked it up today and am really happy with how it turned out. Sound wise it is in the strat area but with better sustain and more flexibility. I will try to post a clip tomorrow.

The first thing I thought was:-

That's one of the ugliest guitars I've ever seen

I was just about to post such a comment and now I've gazed at the pics for a while I kinda like it.

I feel a bit dirty now so I'm going off to my my Tele for a while :?

I really like it.

At work at the moment, watching loads of IT kit not coming up after being rebooted, so may have to spend some time looking at this type of guitar porn...

Mark.

Had a chance to do a quick video which I've linked below. I'm still getting used to the controls but am really happy with the range of sounds it is able to produce. The neck is really comfortable and easy to play and the upper fret access is amazing. The Piezo sounds great and allows me to send a signal to two amps for a great stereo setup (have yet to try this with my eventide timefactor). I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone who wants something different with a great range of tones and superb playability.

Thanks for all your responses.
Simon definitely delivers a first class service and is always happy to talk to people who are interested in his instruments. Not only does he make all the parts himself (apart from tuners) but he has designed a lot of the manufacturing processes.
I'm glad I was able to get something different from the norm.
If any one has any specific questions about the guitar then let me know.
