^ anyone know what the tonal properties of this will be??
(and a neck that will match well?... pickups etc...

I've heard Korina is like a more well balanced mahogany. A lot of people consider it to be the ultimate tonewood... plus it looks awesome.

I'd go for a Korina neck aswell, ebony fretboard, probably a Warpig bridge and MQ neck pickup.

veeery nice! usually i don't like korina (well, i hate it's looks!), but this one's got a greenish nuance and an overall darker tone that's amazing!

Generally speaking, I'd say Korina is a good compromise : punchy and balanced sounding at the same time.
Korina is good looking and light, but to me the ultimate (tone)wood remains Koa.

I have a warmoth black Korina bodied Mockingbird. It is a similar sound to mahogany (though mine has a Floyd which isolates the body a bit more). I have a Wenge neck with an ebony fingerboard to add some fat midrange with a bit of attack. I quite like Korina though I think the sound is a little thinner than mahogany (which is why the old and custom shop explorers and flying V's are different sounding to the reissue mahogany ones). On big bodied guitars I think it works in its favour. On an SG I think that it won't be as obvious. The neck really depends on what you want out of it. I'd be tempted to get one with an ebony fingerboard to brighten it a bit. I think I would go with Satine, Wenge, Paduak and Goncalo Alves, though all of them are different sounding (check the Warmoth neck woods descriptions). If you go with maple I think you run the risk of a bit of a thinner sound.

thanks alot for the replys, i want a metal machine im pondering over getting thet with either a black korina neck and ebony fingerboard, or paduak maybe?or even mahogany???? (with ebony fingerboard)
i want a tight metal machine.... im thinking posibly a ceramic warpig bridge?? (dunno if thats the right choice tho...)sperzel locking tuners, tom bridge..... anyone got other suggestions?

for tight tone I heard warpig is not the best... perhaps Nailbomb or Painkiller

Korina is lighter than mahogany. If you want a balanced axe, het a light weight neck for it.

What do you mean by set me back?
This body isn' light weight... if it was 3lb, I would say ok to the fear of "neck diving", as it weights 5lb 4oz only the wood, I would put a boat neck no problem...
just for information, the telecaster bodies made with Rosewood usually go from 5lb 5oz to 6lb 5 oz... There isn't a all time truth on woods, most korina are lighter than mahogany, this one isn't...

when i said "set me back" i meant in terms of cash ;) i.e. wont that be hidiously expensive??!
what would a rosewood boatneck sound like tonaly coupled with that body then?

With no other options it would be just US$353 (indian rosewood, mind that they cannot send Brazilian Rosewood outside of USA - what would be around US$1000)
A maple/maple or maple rosewood with finish is US$173 + 105 at the most expensive finish...
You can ask a lot more extras, like 12" straight fretboard radius (like gibby) that's +US$35, pearl dots +US$15 (if you ask for the dots at 12th fret on the same lengh of A & B strings is +US$45 if I'm not wrong) or perloid trapezoids +US$90, bindings are +US$110, stainless steel frets +US$20, nut instaled +US$30 and the options go on :lol:
But the simplest indian rosewood neck is just US$353, tonewise, people that made this combo loved like it was a baby with big eyes :lol:

I'm not Brazilian but the answer is no... Different species completely.

pau ferro is sometimes called santos or bolivian rosewood. it is not a true rosewood because it does not come from the Dalbergia family
it is often used as a rosewood substitute and i think fender often use it for the fretboard. it tends to be a bit more browny/brick coloured than stuff like good EI rosewood

ok if i get this with a rosewood or korina neck .... (cash atm is pretty darn low so may be a while before i can get it all done...)
but when i do... i was thinking i want it to be a darkish, muscular beasty, great for both metally(ish) rhythm work, (killswitch, bullet, five finger death punch etc.... and searing leads...with decent cleans too.... i know vague....)
i was pondering holydivers? or ceramic nailbombs?
