Title: a minty cable tester
Post by: Dmoney on May 05, 2009, 12:14:09 AM
so this isnt QUITE finished but you get the idea!

had the issue this weekend on not knowing if some cables i had were working or not, and its not always possible to plug in and whack your strings to test them.

so, i decided to use some spare bits i had lying around after one or two other things to build a mono cable tester into a mint tin from marks & sparks (i really wanted an altoids tin, but this was the closest thing i could find)

still needs holes drilling for the jacks and the LED's but thats all. should be cool to hold plectrums too! or as a little stash box for whatever!

i made some speaker cables and i got paranoid about having a broken speaker cable by accident between my head and cab. not so much at home, but on tour or something. i thought something like this would be handy and it cost pretty much nothing to make. the 9v battery clip i had lying around, same with the tin, and the jack sockets. the cable is cloth covered cable from a guitar, and the stripboard, LED's and 2K resistors are the only things i bought.

oh yeah. the inside of the tin in insulated otherwise there is a permanent sleeve connection.

now i still need to drill the holes in the tin!
