Yes, I'm an old git who's thoroughly not up with modern culture but ...... can someone please explain the current popularity with putting a number of "e"s on the end of the good old english word "sh1t" ? Surely to turn "sh1t" into "sh1te" (also a fine old english word), only one "e" is required.
Has the nation's grammar really reached such a low point ?
Is it purely to avoid internet filters, or something else far more useless ?
Does it make you more cool, the more e's you put on ?
Please answer these, and any other questions you might like to. :D

I wondered about this too. Perhaps we could start a glossary thread for the benefit of us old guys who aren't "down with the kids"? :)
-
I don't think I'm "down with the kids"
Maybe these "shiteeee" kids are obese kids and need time to lift their fingers off the keys to reach for their McDonalds.
But then again, it would be ssshhhiiittteee, which could just emphasise a slow realisation of something going terribly wrong before your eyes.

This was discussed on a thread a while back (I can't find it!). I think there is something with the coding or similar on the forum and it add's an extra e on to the end of the offending word each time a response is posted. At least that's what I think anyway.

I think Alan is talking about the general society today rather than on the forum.

To be honest I'm not sure if I've just noticed it here, or elsewhere too.

yup it added an "e". Lets hit post again and see if another e is added

Haha. The puzzle is solved !! Forum software is adding "e"'s I don't know if that is re-assuring or not !

Taht's bullshiteeeeee!!

wouldn't call it reassuring, but it's satisfyingly bizarre! :)

What I don't understand is how changing the spelling helps, because anyone that knows the original spelling, will recognise what has been said, so why bother?
I can sort of see why it's done, but at the same time it's pointless.
-
Why does it really matter mateeeeeeeeee!?
-
Its when you edit a post you get another e added for each edit
shiteeeee

As for the other aspect, yes people do add extra letters now. This is horribly apparent in Facebook and I've noticed older generations are now doing it.
