What set would you Strat fans out there recommend for a Mex Strat, poplar body maple neck/fingerboard, too bright and harsh as is, sound I'm after is the sound of David White Old Glories in a alder body with rosewood board, warm and vintage. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
the only set that could effectively take away some brightness are Apaches with Alnico IIIs. Please order some oil caps with them - will smoothen the sound further, too.

I'm ordering Irish Tours for mine to give me that blues/rock Rory Gallagher type sounds, they might be worth checking out. Also I would look into Apaches too.

I would have thought Slowhands would thicken things up, can't compare too much as they are the only SC's I have played

I got a set of irish tours in my strat and they seem to handle everything I throw at them.I love these pups. Now to get some mules for my paul...

To take brightness out I wouldn't say Alnico III - I have found they add brightness. To balance an overly bright guitar I would consider slowhands with base plates - I think Gwem is the man to comment here....
