Hey,
I'm putting together some demos over the next few weeks. Last week I picked up a Novation Nio; its pretty cool.
I need some recommendations on mics to record with. Guitars and vocals.
Shure Sm57 is the obvious choice, but £90 is maybe a little too much (I'm on a budget).
Sound quality is a priority though!
Any recommendations?

I am using two mic's at the moment. The standard SM57 and also the AKG C1000 which is a great mic! It records guitars reallly well and really does capture great sound, it's especially good for recording acoustic guitars.
I paid £85 for my SM57 and got a deal on the AKG mic and got it for £70. I think they retail for roughly £99 though.

In my experience, you do actually get what you pay for with microphones...
You should be able to pick up an SM57 for about £70... just watch out for fakes!!!

You'll laugh but the T.Bone RM700 ribbon mic sounds GREAT on amps and just about everything else I've tried it on. It's very warm, full and at the same time super-defined!

Also check out the Sennheiser MD421 (it sounds like the new ACDC album).
On a budget though I'd probably still get an SM57 for most amps. However if your amp is quite bright then it's a no-brainer; go T.Bone.
