Title: Where do you get your pots, wire, caps from?
Post by: d1dsj on May 08, 2009, 11:15:24 PM
I want to rewire my LP standard ready for some new BKP's (probably Mules as it's a brighter guitar) and want good quality parts, where do you guys get yours from? Any help and advice appreciated, I just want standard 2 vol, 2 tone set up.

I get top quality stuff from WD Music:

Long shaft pots:  http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/CTS_Premium_500k_Long_Shaft_Pot_CTS500XL
Short shaft pots:  http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/CTS_Premium_500k_Split_Shaft_Pot_CTS500
Orange Drop caps:  http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Electronics/Capacitors
Wire:  http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Electronics/Wire

If I want cheaper stuff, or fancy trying something different, I go to AxesRus:

I'd like to mention Allparts too, I get pretty much equal amounts of stuff from Allparts and WD, depending on who has the better price or what's in/out of stock:

On a similar thread I’ve been considering for some time totally re wiring my Epi les paul custom which still has the factory wiring. It is laded with a Black dog bridge and Mule neck.I’ve been considering putting bumblebee capacitors in there from

Do you think this would be a wise move and does anyone have any alternative recommendations?

Does this actually make much difference? I've read elsewhere that the effect on tone is marginal. But having said that, the stock tone pots on my 79 335 are absolute pants. They just add muffle on anything below 9 to my ears.

If you play everything on 10, the difference will be less. If you use your volume pot a lot, pots and cables make a huge difference.

I am surprised no one mentioned this place

I am getting my caps from there, but they also sell pots, seems they are a reliable business with a good reputation.
