I can't really play like that at the moment, my personal journey over the years led me off down bluesy routes - but I started off in that old skool rock/metal ballpark, wondering how to do it. The more clips like this I hear, the more I find myself thinking "OK, perhaps I ought to learn how to do this now..."

That's through the Axe still?

Yep. I recently received a FBT Verve 12MA fullrange monitor and it really helps me dial in proper tones. Plus I finally figured out how to upload IRs into the Axe (I didn't really bother til now).

And as Clawfinger has provided an immense library for the Axe Community, I was digging into some Bogner, Mesa, Marshall,Engl, etc cabs and mixed them a bit with really amazing results. I think the cab sims were the missing link really.
