I headed out to Feline in Croydon last night to pick up my long in progress Blackmachine B7... Jonathan took shots of the guitar for Doug's site & records. It was nice to meet you, Jonathan, and that Mexican is rather good, isn't it? :D
Specs... Quilted Sapele body (cut from same billet as my other Blackmachine's top) with 5 chambers, Camphorwood burl top, Madagascan rosewood neck, Cocobolo fretboard. Pickups are AlNiCo Warpigs.
Plays fantastically, and with the Warpigs 'thick' is an understatement when describing the tone!
A few of my own cr@ppy pictures follow. I had bad lighting conditions today:

Looks fantastic. And that's an understatement 8)

As in SS.org, $%ing good fretboard and I love the smooth looking top. I prefer more decayed camphor though but for a Blackmachine it's awesome.
-
Beautiful craftsmanship indeed! Wow......
-
Very nice looks like you have many happy hours neh days neh years in front of you!
-
that is awesome.
-
Wow!

Urrr maybe tomorrow, I'll do a B2/B7 family shot or 2.
And thanks everyone. It's really, really nice.... sounds like a thug, though! :D

Thanks everyone. I'm made up to have such a beastie in my possession!

Looks awesome! I would love to have a go on a blackmachine some day just to see if they're as good as they look, would probably hate the neck though, looks pretty wide and flat!
-
I hate you!!! I want one :)
-
Phwoooooooar!!!
-
What wood is the fret board?
Looks great by the way!

A stunning guitar not to far from how mine will look.
It was very selfish of you to get this built, it's delayed my blackmachine lol

If you put your order in before I did*, then I apologise.
He was talking about some great timber that he's acquired. I really need to order another one!
* You didn't, btw ;)

Thanks! Fretboard's Cocobolo, and finished with Danish oil to prevent any problems with allergies.

Just how long in progress, out of curiosity?

Well, kicked off the order process March 2007. I told Doug 'as & when' which pretty much stuck.
I was the last person on his backlog list which didn't really bother me that much... let him finish other folks' instruments first, all good with me.
I changed specs from 6 to 7 strings at the end of that year, and decided on the body autumn 2008. There was also an issue with one of his timber suppliers 1st half of 08 which really helped screw the timings up.
The most stressful part was the last few weeks when I knew that it was close to completion!
FWIW he had cut the body to be a 6 string exhibition piece but hadn't assembled a guitar out of it. When I went round to pick woods I kind of fell in lust with it and snagged it when I found that it didn't have a buyer. This means that it's slightly thinner then his regular 7 string builds so I can't put really silly strings on it, but I don't anyway... Finding out afterwards that the body is cut from the same wood as my B2 was a bonus.
The B2, by the way, is the profile photo here: http://www.myspace.com/blackmachine You can tell that the quilt's identical....

That is one boootiful guitar!!
