Sorry if there has been another thread, I can't remember one atleast..
Just ordered my Sunday ticket! Anyone else heading there this year?
This is hopefully going to be relaxing, get a nice pitch and a few cans and watch the likes of ZZ Top, Whitesnake, and Def Leppard.
I am hoping sitting down to watch it will ease the usual festival atmosphere Vs a normal gig
-
Absolutely horrendous lineup, certainly not more than ten bands I'd even consider watching.
But I'm going anyay because they announced Faith No More as an exclusive :x
At least I've got Hellfest the weekend after as well, with, as usual, the best lineup of any of the summer festivals worldwide. :)
-
I'd love to go on the Sunday, but only to see ZZ Top :D

I much prefer Dour's lineup this year - Only bands that I'm sad about missing are Electric Wizard and Manowar.

I like very, very little on the Dour lineup, wheras, if possible, I'd watch 45 bands at Hellfest, albiet there are some pretty horrid clashes:
Down vs Pig Destroyer
God Seed vs Saint Vitus
Eyehategod vs Destroyer 666
Immolation vs Amebix
Pestilence vs Destruction (whoever let them clash is a buffoon)
Cathedral vs Mastodon
Electric Wizard vs Dream Theater
I wish I wasn't having to be at the same festival as Manowar though.

I'd watch Pig Destroyer over Down anyday, and Mastodon over Cathedral, and Electric Wizard without a doubt over Dream Theater.
The rest I don't really know, I'm more into techy stuff. Isis, DEP, Rolo Tomassi, and Amenra gunna be great at Dour, not to mention all the mathrock, glitch, dnb, etc.
-
I'm going for the whole festival, though i bought my ticket ages ago, so i am a bit dissapointed with how the line up has turned out. Though most of the time you end up too wasted to see most of the bands anyways.
-
I thought Sunday looked pretty good
Def Leppard, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Journey and Dream Theatre appeals to me though
BUT I don't like dodging bottles of wee & I prefer to see bands in concert halls and clubs
Will end up going to London Guitar Show as a guest rather than exhibitor
Just bought tickets to see Steel Panther playing a club gig in London instead the week after

Oh I know who I'd watch regards every clash, but it's a nuisance that I'll have to miss Down, Mastodon, Destroyer 666 etc
ISIS are techy? :?
I've seen DEP umpteen times, can't be arsed with the HTB plagarists Tomassi and I'd like to see Amenra, other than those and Fuck Buttons there's not much I'm fussed about missing. But I'd be dissappointed to miss tons of the Hellfest lineup. But I'm mental on BM and grind.

I'd love to see Meshuggah again, I think I'm obsessed, but I saw them last year and I'm not spending £170+ to see one band... that's almost enough for a pair of BKPs...
and who let Trigger the Bloodshed play on the second stage, I saw them supporting last year and they were awful, ok they ain't my kind of thing but I couldn't hear a single note, I've got a feeling the playing might have been a bit sloppy
I didn't go last year even though Children of Bodom were playing but I've seen them more times than I can count, I find it ironic that they played Download the year I didn't go, all the 2008 robbing stories on the download forum are slightly putting me off this year as well
I'm going to bloodstock instead, Fear Factory are there!!!

I find Meshuggah pretty dull live though, I have to say. To quote a friend, it's like staring at your watch, the big hand and little hand are doing a great job, but...

Bloodstock is always a better weekend. I'l be at that too, they book a lot of mince but it's always great banter. Plus, since Damnation has done so well, they've been booking more and more extreme metal, so there's more on the lineup I like every year.
-
ye I was looking at both line ups before, download has more bigger bands, that I don't care about and most I've seen before, but bloodstock has more bands that I'd watch even though I'm not fussed on them either although less of them I've seen before
I'll be bringing the ukulele again this year...
Meshuggah are great from the front row, caught a drum stick too :)
now Norther, they are boring live! they don't move, or get the crowd going or anything, they don't even play any of the songs I'd call the hits of each album

I'm not a Norther fan anyway, but in terms of bands I do like, I always find Opeth total uninteresting live. Every song they play I'll love, they'll play them flawlessly, but I just can't get interested. Then Akerfeldt will have some terrible patter and I'll weep into my pint.
-
I love Akerfeldt's banter, I still remember last bloodstock when he said "last time I was at a festival, I got lucky in a tent... with my wife" lol
I'm not sure if they were the right band to headline but I enjoyed them, I've seen them 3 times now but I don't think I'd go out my way to see them at a gig
-
omg, ZZ Top???
I love ZZ's early stuff and went to see them a few years back in Newcastle - utterly dreadful, looked like they were miming actually, Billy's hands didn't seem to be doing what was coming out of the speakers. Possibly the worst gig I've ever seen if it wasn't for an even more awful performance by Bill Wyman & The Rhythm Kings :zzzzz:
-
I'm going download - not an amazing line up but I'm looking for the Friday night party with Motley Crue, the Saturday rave-up with The Prodigy and the Sunday Rock out with Clutch, ZZ Top and Whitesnake.
So want to go to Hellfest though :(
-
Zebra bandanas and inflatable guitars arrived today! Off tomorrow :D
-
I'm watching it online, cause im cool like that.

Now THAT is a band.

I went for the Friday to see Faith No More. They were amazing. Does anyone know who they have on guitar now?

Missed Def Lep as my mate lost his t shirt and got cold, and generally was bored of it :?
I don't think they would have surpassed Steel Panther though, they are a tight band, and the guitar sounded great.

$% me that was fun. Just went for the Friday - I don't have any Limp Bizkit albums but they ruled live. Loved them, Korn and Meshuggah and LB = all I went for. Shame about Haake's injury playing up on Meshuggah's set :(they seemed a bit pissed off understandably.
-
what's the haake done? I'm guessing the 3rd stage was packed out, they seemed to fill then 2nd stage 3 years ago and they've got more popular since then
-
Steel Panther
The Prodigy
Motley Crue
Bands of the weekend. That was an intense weekend!
-

Yeah, people were watching from beyond the tent.
A lot of Meshuggah gigs had been cancelled because Haake had back surgery I believe and this was their first gig since and after a few songs they kept talking and Haake was talking to the crowd but one couldn't hear him because of the guitarists letting their Fs ring :? but I heard him say 'back surgery' and then they got this other dude to play 1 or 2 songs then they just walked off without saying anything :(poor guys.
However - Haake played Bleed ALL the way through - they used to stop at the clean part, it was utter insanity.
-
Well, now that Faith No More have made it obvious that they're playing at Reading and Leeds plus a Glasgow and Irish date that was pretty much a waste of money I couldn't afford
Thoroughly enjoyed Journey yesterday though, and Whitesnake and Def Leppard were quite fun.
Th ehighlight of my entire weekend was probably Joe Elliots astounding "Twenty five years ago Rick had a terrific injury" quote.
-
Terrific? as in it was terrific that it happened because it made people a lot more aware of def leppard due to all the one armed drummer jokes?
like paris hilton putting out her terrific video, hadnt heard of her before it came out. never seen it by the way, i hear its really boring.
-
On presumes he meant horrific...
Showing my age, but I remember Def Leppard at Donnington 1986 - IIRC Joe introduced Rick & the roar from the crowd was the loudest of the day...

Awesome. It's like the last 20 years never happened. :D
-
My favourites were probs Faith No More, ZZ Top and Dream Theater. I also really enjoyed Opeth, Stone Gods and Skin all of which I hadn't heard much of before the festival. The Answer and Chris Cornell were also great who I was pleased played alot of soundgarden stuff.
I am still recovering now and am so sunburnt. The last night was absolutely mental, but unfortunately there were alot of pricks about that night.
-
Saw Skin at the 100 club in London last week and they were great
I used to see them all the time
Neville has a great voice

Exactly why I don't go, too many chavs-in-black. Grumbles.

I keep meaning to ask you to elaborate on your avatar? I don't know how that's done but it looks awesome! More pics?
