So yeah, i had a practice with a new band last night. Really enjoyed it after having not played in a band for about 8 months i think.
I use a C-pig at the moment, and i don't think it's the best thing for a two guitar band. It did the massive thick sound i wanted for my last band where i was the only guitarist, but i'm thinking that i might need to take it down a tad
I'll be playing mainly rhythm with a bit of lead here and there. Clarity is an issue as always (but i don't really need to worry about that with BKP's :D)
It's going in my 61 SG, and the other guitarist uses a EMG 85
Music style is pretty techy hardcore. Tuning is D standard
I'm thinking a Miracle Man, a C-Bomb or a Cold Sweat (although i'm thinking that i might want something slighty hotter than the CS)
Any help appreciated!

I'd say a calibrated set of Painkillers would be well worth considering for "techy hardcore"
-
I think they'll be too harsh for my likings, a bit too middy maybe
-
I love my RiffRaff in the SG for teh brootalz very very much. I think it's also perfect for a two guns setup, it's bright and cuts it and is not overly compressed.

the painkiller is not harsh at all

I think i'd like something a bit more modern Hunter but thanks anyway mate :)

Don't worry about the CS not being able to "keep up" with the other pickups - it has plenty of power, probably more than a NB (though I've no experience of the C-Bomb).
-
I think a Cold Sweat would be a good option. It's lot bit lighter than you C-Pig but still heavy and tight enough for metal by all accounts. It will give you a thinner tone which will balance better with the EMG guy.
Depends if you want to go tight and clear or a bit more organic? If so, you might want to try a Nailbomb?

Don't be too quick to write off the lower gain pickups ;)

The C-bomb is basically an overwound CS according to Tim.
So if there's enough power in a CS, then they'll be more than enough in a C-bomb i guess?
Also, no one has even mentioned the MM?!

where did he say that?

On the phone to me yesterday

Painkillers are focused and precise with fabulous dynamic response and shed loads of bite - but never harsh - and if you roll back the volume pot they clean up surprisingly well given their spec - far from being a one trick pony
-
There's just something about them that have never appealed to me from the clips.
I will relisten though

nice
did he mention the magnet size and type?
my cold sweat has a thick C4 (and it's very explosive )

No, he Just said the best options for my SG would be a MM, C-Bomb or a CS. As i want a ceramic magnet.
I don't know much about different ceramic magnets, what are the different ones?
I think i'm leaning towards the C-Bomb at the moment, just a slighty hotter CS :D

Ok, after talking again this morning to a very patient Tim. I have ordered a Cold Sweat!
2 conductor, Nickel cover :D
Can't wait!

If you don't mind, I'd be glad if you could say why he advised you a CS over the C-NB
thanks !
And Enjoy

He started by saying that you shouldn't always go off DC resistance for output etc, and what i was describing (music, amp, guitar etc) the cold sweat was the best. I was trying to push a C-bomb, but he said i wouldn't need it as i was saying at a jump from my 22k C-pig to the 14k CS would be massive drop in hotness. That's where the talk of DC resistance came in....
He also talked about wire gauges, and how he's perfected each pickup to sound it's best. So overwinding can sometimes make a pickup sound not as good as he intended it to.

thanks for the information, mate.
Interesting...what Tim says is ALWAYS interesting ! 8)

Can't help but think that i lost him half way through. But i kept saying, "Yep, yep"
