Hopefully not anyway. Found em on GAK the other week and have been interested ever since:

How would an all maple SG sound though? I'm thinking thin/bright?
The yellow, blue and white ones all look so cool though! I may have to go and find somewhere to try one out, my parents want to get me a nice guitar for my 21st this year so if we cant afford a WezV/dont get the deposit in time then I'm going to be looking at some other SGs :)
edit - how about the SG Special Faded? I love the look of the worn brown one!
-
"It creates a fresh, brilliant tone previously unheard of from a standard SG"
Which, to me, says that it's not a traditional/standard SG tone. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing ... unless it's the traditional/standard SG tone that you want.
Definitely one to play & try before buying.
Nice parents though 8)

I sort of like the Les Paul ones, but I wouldn't buy one really.
-
They're so beautiful, but all-maple!? Fools. If they made em with a maple neck and a mahogany body I think they'd have sold BILLIONS... or at least thousands.
-
i agree with indy's thoughts.
wonder if that body is soft or hard maple.
the maple board /looks/ great on the SG though
-
If you could get a little bit more money I think this one might be better.

That said I have not tried the maple sg's just image they would be very bright.
-
if its a softer maple it will sound more like sycamore - very john birch.... potentially

There was another thread about these:

Strangely the reaction on Tom's thread has been a lot more positive!

It's sunny outside ;)

Personally, I'd just get a Standard
I'm yet to play a Special that played nice... but I've played a Standard that blew me away!

I've played a number of great specials and bad standards. With Gibson it really is about shopping around.

I hate the sun... and I still don't like these SGs!
Agreed about the Specials vs Standards, I've owned pretty bad examples of both but there are great ones out there!

All maple = fail
-
To me this is all wrong.
Does nothing for me at least ..
-
mmmm yeah all maple...seems wrong...wanna try the older 3 single pickup swampash ones though..sound more interesting to me

not sure this is a sg

Nope, looks horrible as well!
I dont reckon an all maple guitar would be for me but I want to at least give it a go if I can find one, I think they look good anyway :) Will be going PMT some time to have a go on some.

I think they look great. But hugely expensive, which goes against the whole concept of those old Epiphones.

Yeah, close to five thousand dollars is definitely not what I'm thinking when I think Epiphone. Plus, I'm sure I could get something handmade to my specs for less.
I'm sure the Raw Power will be a huge contrast to the original mahogany slabs sound-wise (I'm sure they'll remain just as heavy). I think very bright with an extremely tight bass. It would need some dark pickups for sure...

Never been a huge fan of how those Yamaha SGs look, they're too chunky and weird looking.
