Title: My little DIY project!
Post by: LazyNinja on June 01, 2009, 12:45:04 AM
Here is an Argos Value Shoe Rack. What ever will it be?

guessed it yet?

............... It's a pedal board!!
I laid out the pedals where they would go. The three bits of paper are meant to be (from right) Korg Pitchblack, Dual True Bypass Loop Router and Tap Tempo (for when I eventually get a delay pedal with TP).

Painted with spray paint. It's green because green was cheaper than other colours at my local DIY store :? I'm cr@p at spraying so not very even. I didn't put any primers either cos I'm too lazy.

Velcro'd

Pedals placed.

(you may have noticed that the CE2 isn't connected... I lost a patch cable while I was making this :()

Back

Power supply from Johnny Shred Freak velcro'd at the back.

Not everything quite went according to plan. Biggest annoyance was that I didn't think the daisy chain would take so much space. I couldn't fit the wah above the tuner for this reason. I think they would be a lot better if the plugs were right angled and low profile.

Still waiting on few things to complete the board. I'm getting a dual looper from Red Onion. Also, I need to get some decent patch leads as I've had these plastic moulded ones for over 5 years. They could do with upgrading I think.

Anyhoo I'm quite proud of my little board! It cost me very little in material and I have enough pieces of wood left over to make a couple more. Maybe I'll make a huge one and a mini one, or play with this first one for a while and try making an improved Mk.2 version. The only tools I used were a screwdriver and a coping saw btw, you don't even need a coping saw really.

Tell me what you guys think :)

Thanks!

I can't take full credit though as I've seen people making pedalboards out of IKEA gorm shelf units http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50058512 (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50058512) which inspired me to do this. Ikea gorms are even cheaper, but I don't have a car so getting to Ikea would have been difficult. My pedalboard is based somewhat on Pedaltrain Jr, mine's not as good but hey £80 or £8?

Yeah I'm looking to replace the patch cables but I don't feel like spending £60 for a George Ls or Planet Waves. Any recommendation on mid-range cables? I found these Adam Hall patch leads which seem okhttp://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/p-490-adam-hall-patch-leads-5-x-30cm-long-patch-cables-for-effects-pedals-etc.aspx?CAWELAID=346246053 (http://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/p-490-adam-hall-patch-leads-5-x-30cm-long-patch-cables-for-effects-pedals-etc.aspx?CAWELAID=346246053).

Great stuff - I've been making one from Ikea's Gorm
Cost about £3 plus some extra bits of wood
Must get around to finishing it

^

looks very nice, by the way. and i agree about the cleartones, they're more or less a no-brainer if you want good quality leads and don't want to pay a fortune. they're noticeably better than anything you can get out of a local guitar shop (well, anything I've ever got out of a local guitar shop, planet waves and the like) at twice the price...

EDIT: i've got that power supply too. it seems the entire forum buys all the same stuff... :D

I'd never heard of all these folks from other forums making them from the Gorm units but I've spent today nosing about.

I'm gonna try cadge a lift to ikea tomorrow night and get on the case with making one. I've already got a Gator mixer semi-hard-case that fits the shelves almost perfectly too!

Cheers!

but i know those patch leads you use and they SUCK tone!

I dont really buy into this, I use cheaper patch leads and my tone is exactly the same whether I plug straight into the amp or through my pedalboard.. Then again I do only use 3 pedals.

edit - that looks pretty cool though, Kaz :)

Shelves bought, now realised all my tools are in my ma and da's garage.

I'll get to work come the weekend.
