Hi all,
I own two sx 24" scale, strat style guitars. Their nut width and scale lenghth suit me just fine. They're cheap but they have been set up properly and the're not too bad at all.
I'm haveing one converted to have a three way selector switch and two humbuckers. I love the thin lizzy sound but I also like the modern santana sound. I've had some advise from Tim but I'd like to have a few more opinions. Which set of bkn pups would you recomend or would you recomend a combination? I only play at home and my amp is a marshall mg15dfx.
Both guitars have rosewood boards. One has an ash body. The other has alder, which one would you convert to get the best tone suited for humbuckers?
Regards and steady as you go ---- Phil

Phil, Tim wouldn't steer you wrong. If you like Santana's sound, I think Abraxas would do the trick. As for converting your strats, what would you use the remaining guitar for?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I do trust Tim's judgment. I thought it might be of interest to read other peoples views and to see how many came up with the same choice. The slight doubt I have is that all the sound samples I've found so far, with these pups, feature heavy metal music. I'm not into this at all.
I'm only coverting one guitar. The other I'll keep as it is. I may get some Irish Tours for them but I can't see that happening for quite some time.

What woods? Amp? Thanks!

In that case, I would probably convert the ash guitar if you want the strat with ITs to keep that stratty sound. Plus, ash might work better with an abraxas, since it has a bit more of a pop than alder. Otherwise, it's really whatever you wish.

Thanks fror the advice. It makes good sense. I was thinking the ash one simply because fitted with a couple of camos, it will look superb.
