Title: DO YOUR MUSICIAN FRIENDS COMMENT ON THE SOUND YOU'RE GETTING THESE DAYS?
Post by: JEFF MAKOR on June 02, 2009, 12:47:43 PM
As the title of this topic asks, do you find more interest from fellow plank slappers recently?
Ever since getting my PGBlues and Abraxas, my time-served muso pals have asked me about my tone and how cool it sounds.
Batting ego aside, I extol the many sonic virtues of BKPups and why they should be selling one of their kidneys to retro-fit them into all their axes!
Of course, good technique, pucker amp, quality leads, clean strings and a decent plectrum will help, but I can say with all honesty that BKPickups have my complete attention.
Also, I applaud their philosophy of giving discerning customers what they actually want and feel certain this small company will be a benchmark for this and other industries through the recession!

I fitted a 'spare' set of Nailbombs to a friends SG a while ago as I'd been extolling the virtues of BK's. He hasn't asked me to swap them back to his Gibson stocks yet :)

I have had great compliments about my setup. Gretsch Power Jet, Boss RE-20 Space Echo, Engl Classic, Bandmaster cab.

The Yamaha doesn't get that much stage time.

Later in the summer I'll have a new 'project' and I will probably use my Esquire with Blackguard 50. The H&K Tube Factor will be needed too for the heavier stuff. No doubt that setup will receive some compliments.

And I have to say that I 've been impressed by both your tone and feeling ! What you play is very good stuff and also pleasant to hear !

Abraxas are quite confidential around here and we need more of your clips in the player section !

I have certainly had more people talk to me about it after fitting BKPs than before but then again, I haven't had many people beating their way through the throng. In fact, a few weeks back, a certain well respected blues player that I vaguely know told me I was getting a great tone and we went through the gear I had. He was going to check out BKP but I haven't seen him for a few weeks so don't know if he did.

Thanks for the complement, Dr.
I agree that the Abraxas get overlooked for some reason.
Perhaps the association with Carlito Santana is putting as many off as it entices?
Anyway, i'll be trying to record something for the near future as I've a follow up album to get done this year.
Keep in touch.
Jeff

I got a compliment, but only once. it was for my EC-1000 with Black Dog set, the guy played metal with it and couldn't believe how good it was, he was shocked that it was better than his EMG equipped Ibanez.

I've had a few, but I think it's more to do with my amps than my BKPs.........

+ 1 billion.  I've got nothing but raves based on my amp. No one gives a sh!t about what pickups you're using. With another musician who has a good ear for tone in a controlled environment, maybe they'll hear the diff. @ a gig when the drinks are flowin' ... it's bullsh!t. No one cares. (That doesn't stop me from using them, of course, but the layman doesn't give a rusty fart what pickups you're using)

Yes.

My drummer (who is 17 and the most natural gifted musician I've ever met. This kid just has the most amazing chops, tone and phrasing on both guitar and drums!) absolutely loves the tone that we get through my Blackstar HT-DISTX/JCM800 set up. We both use a Gibson SG (he brings his lefty along to show us riffs he has written) and it sounds massive!

Yes actually. A couple of weeks ago my band played a gig at a pub in Glasgow and after the gig some guy asked me about the strat I was using and how the tone sounded really great, I told him I was using BKP Irish Tours and he said he would have to check BKPs out. It's nice to get a compliment once in a while.

Happened last night with a guy coming up to me telling me my gear sounded superb. I did the usual BKP selling job and he seemed to like the Laney VC30 too. Something else happened last night -I was told my playing was Awesome ( or did he say awful?)- that has never been said to me before.Methinks he doth over do it somewhat.

I'm sure your playing IS awesome, Steve  :)

I'm down with the kids.  Some guy told me my guitar sound was "sick" at one of my recent gigs.  Took me a few minutes to realise that was a good thing......

This. I officially love my tone, and its really all about amp + guitar. The rest is icing on the cake. But the cake has to be good! ('82 Navigator 335 into '87 JCM800 4103). Funny thing is that I refused to put anything absolutely unnecesary between that, so all I have is an EHX LPB1. All comes down to guitar and amp. Everything else is like fancy boots on a footballer; useless if he's a dog.
