Title: neck match for bridge nailbomb
Post by: syr2012 on June 03, 2009, 03:40:09 AM
I've decided that my next guitar WILL have a bridge nailbomb. I'm open to considerations for the neck, but I'm inflexible on what I need from it. The neck must cut through and sound a bit brighter than your typical neck placement and be usable for finger tapping. Depending on how I do, the guitar will either be mahogany-maple, ash, or alder. I'm thinking MM or an underwound bridge CS. Any ideas?

Are you soooo addicted to BKP to choose a model in the range, before having decided the wood of your future guitar ?

Anyway....dunno if the MM neck will pair well in both power and voicing with a NB bridge. What's more I wouldn't have expect a MM neck to really cut the mix, but as I said I don't know really...haven't tried it yet...so you'll need more advices on that combination.

As for an underwound CS....well I don't know if in that case (you haven't decided for the guitar yet) it would be a good thing to start looking at pickups Tim doesn't regulary make, because you'll stabbing too much in the dark, imo. The range has been designed pretty well to cover most of the needs, so....well....for what you want.......why not a NB neck

Or if you absolutely want a ceramic neck with an alnico bridge (as you seem to ask with a CS bridge to fix in the neck position), then try out the PK neck, the only one stock ceramic neck made by Bare Knuckle.  8)

Sounds pretty much like the NB neck already.

If the nailbomb neck will cover that, then there may be a calibrated set in my future. I decided on the nailbomb before the guitar wood (funny, I know ) because I've heard that the nailbomb would work well in those woods. I actually prefer AV bridges, but ceramics seem to work well in the neck position from what I've tried (every bridge ceramic I've met has been harsh, sterile, and just too squeaky clean). I was also thinking about an MQ for the neck, but I don't know if it would meet my needs. I actually forgot that the PK neck was ceramic, but I know that the CS neck is AV, which is why I thought underwound bridge. Does anyone know the output of the Nailbomb and Painkiller in the neck?

P.S., I wouldn't actually order a custom pickup without consulting Tim first, especially since he knows more about what every little adjustment would do to it. I'm just going off of what I already know.

and underwound bridge cs probably would be way too bright and scooped
and still too hot for neck position
