I recently tracked down a 70s WEM Dominator combo.
Rated at about 17 watts and with an original Fane speaker, it howls and sings beautifully.
For a joke, I exchanged the Fane for a EV 200watt-the same they used for early Boogies.
As a result, the weight is prohibitive, but the projection, tone and umph this baby delivers pisses all over many of the boutique amplifiers some are lusting over.
Some very AC15/30ish meets old Orange and early Marshall tones emanate but to top it all, it is loud enough to cope with a loud blues outfit and with surprising headroom!
The PGBlues pups adore the late 60s Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac vibe, whilst the Abraxas pushes through the mix like a Ella Fitzgerald in a phone booth!
You owe it to yourselves to try a good example of these 'tone generators' when they cross your path-it may just save you a boutique fortune and get better tone at the same time.

Nice...the 70's are not the pretty ones..but they sound great

I don't think Ella Fitzgerald could even fit in a phone booth! PDT_008

I've got a WEM Dominator too. I've had mine since 1981. It needs a fair bit of work doing to it but it still works. Mine has a 12" Goodmans Speaker in it, not sure if its original though.
Interesting idea to put one of those monstrous speakers in it!
