Title: All rocking Les Paul
Post by: Mr. Air on June 04, 2009, 10:42:38 PM
I'm going to get a Les Paul clone with mahogany body plus neck, flame maple top and rosewod fingerboard which is going to get a BKP treatment.

I'm going for an all rock machine that can cover classic to modern hard rock. The band I'm in gets inspiration from acts like ac/dc, Jet, Guns N Roses/Velvet Revolver, RATM, and Tool, just to name a few that covers the classic to modern rock spectre.

So what pickup would you suggest? I've given thoughts to the mule, black dog, abraxas, rebel yell and crawler.

I'm looking forward to your suggestions.

The guitar will have 500k pots and I play through a Musicman hd-130 reverb and sometimes a vox ac30.

I have also send a mail to Tim with same inquiry and I'm looking forward to hear what the mster himself recommends.

I would actually say Pig 90, I think it does the heavier stuff far better than the Mule and is just as versatile.

Could just be the guitar my Mules in though, its not as good sounding acoustically as the one my Pig 90 is in..

pig90s are better for tool and that kind of heavy and sludgy tones, but don't overlook the mules, they're very versatile... of course they're much less heavy than warpigs and other contemporary pickups, but they can be used on every kind of music with excellent results... my set is mixed, with a "normal" alnicoIV mule in the neck and an alnicoV in bridge. on classic rock up to hard rock and heavy metal they really shine.

That's interesting, I thought the mules would actually be a bit too cool for the clone.

..any of the pups you mention will work, but your amps may be more "responsible" for the tones you seek, esp. the more heavy tones/Rage...TOOL...a pig thru a vox doesnt equate Adam Jones tone, IMO

Couldn't agree more. Those amps aren't cut for the heavier stuff. Still love them though. The bands mentioned are sources of inspiration and I'm not trying to sound just like Adam Jones or any other player. Guess i should get a vh4 then

I just want a versatile guitar than can cope with different genres of rock and be at home on different amps as well.  :D
