I am traditionally a rock player, but look for the perfect compromise tone that will give me the best performance on E and drop D tunings in a 5-piece (with 2xgit and 1xkeys) heavy act.
I don't want to change patches much, as I think the FOH guy will optimise the sound once and then it's better to stay on it and vary rather with pickup/volume changes on teh guitar.
Here are three starting point patches that I dialed in for this. What do you think, which of these will be the best sound for
Priority 1: Rhythm, Priority 2: Leads/Fills
Or do you think they are all far away and what should be changed?

One of the recto ones, probably the first. I'd want to tweak either so they'll cut more and to get some more punch in the "chug" bits.
I think the Uber one would disappear in a mix.

The Ueber clip counds nice on it's owm, but I think might be rather thin in a band setting.
THe Recto new certainly has plenty of mids, and would cut through a mix but is rather lacking in bass and "grunt" for me.
SO, for me, the winner is the Recto Orange tone (certainly as a starting point anyway). It's got a good balance of frequencies, with enough mids to actually be heard. Nic etone generally.
ANother pretty key point here is to create a tone which contrasts to some extent with your other guitarist's tone, which will certainly help in many ways to create a sonic landscape in which one can pick out what each of you are playing.

Yeah it's a good point about the other guy. He plays an Engl preamp, Laney head into 5150 cab. He's got loads of mids mainly.

Vote uber, pretty close anyway, supposing you play the lead over an engl rigged rythm guitar you should blend in a bit more during the rythm parts. At least if your going in the gothenburg-death metal (early Entombed?) direction as a band. If not i dont see why you should not take the rig you like the most.
PS. I like these clips better then your axe clips :)P

Thanks Henk. I'll try all 3 in rehearsal tomorrow, then we'll see, but I also tend to Recto a bit, because of its mean mids, Ueber is a bit more Hifi in these.
But you do know that all these 3 are direct recorded Axe clips, too, right?

I really want to use it, but everytime I try I fail (in the Axe that is) - just not my kind of voicing. Maybe I dial it in wrong though. Would love some advise from the real VH4 owners how to dial it in for this kind of tone.

Well, im sorry Hunter, excuse the slightly sarc remarc about the axe. but between 80hrs of work a week and my kids i wish i had time to play as much as you....
Anyway, the bands i have formed and the guys i have jammed with pretty much worked as a team so yes, just take the lot and try how it works. Basically we played our own stuff from folk rock to trash but it worked allways like this. 1. Vocals 2. rythm gits exept when lead is on 3. lead backs harmony on rythm 3. Bass keeps the lot together 4. drums works on bass mostly.
Since i always wrote songs since i started playing the guitar i was best suited with rythm parts, its just too much work communicating with bass to take on lead guitar. Knowing the drummer works best on the bass guitar in hard rock or metal.
Owell you probably know this, but it is my opinion the speaker cabinet you use matters most in whichever position you play. Playing rythm parts i mostly used greenbacks because they seem to turn on top of the mix at equal volume.
Hope this helps a bit getting your band's sound together, just remember that practicing more will surely get you ahead when forming a new band.

Just to add to my remark ill add a try-out recording of my main live cab during a practice session.
If i remember correctly i wrote some uptempo trash song to make a point to the drummer about not always folowing bass guitar. Anyway im pretty sure it was a Rath top on my cab and some other FX, recorded with a minidisc recorder.
I hope ill get my point across, if not just /ignore ^^
