just a classic - completely useless - forum debate.
it's aimed at multiple guitars owners or at who had the chance to own or try many BKP models and had to make a single choice...
in this years i collected a pretty nice and wide range of guitars and pickups... but what pickup (or set) set would i choose if i had to keep just one?
it's quite hard to choose but i'd say nailbombs. definitely... (the only ones i'm quite sure i wouldn't choose are holy divers and miracle men... not because i don't like them but because i find them quite "limited" for my tonal needs)
and you?

That's interesting, since I've found the HD to be the opposite, but that's largely due to the coil split. I've always wanted a bridge nailbomb, but if I had to choose from what I already have, I'd pick a HD bridge and MQ middle, or just the overwound queen with a coil tap.
How's the MM limited?
-
Holy Divers are my favourite BKPs.
But to be honest if I only had one guitar it wouldn't have BKPs in it. I think it's just fine as it is.......... ;)

For me if I could have only one it would have Yardbirds in it. I suspect I would miss Humbucklers but the tele with Yardbirds seems to be the axe that I keep picking up a large proportion of the time.
Lets hope that grey day of one guitar never comes!

i'm not saying it's objectively limited... just it does MY things worse than other pickups. i'm mostly a lead guitarist, and for lead i don't mean shredding but the kind of melodic playing you usually have in gothic music... for that kind of things i prefer a smoother and middier pickup like the nailbomb.
of course MMs kick ass for thrashy rhythms, but it's not what i play most of the time!

i DO only have one guitar :( (well the others are real cheap...)
gibson lp menace and soon to have a mm bridge and possibly a nb neck (shock horror but its what tim advised ;) ).....
-
Not having tried every set I am not able to say but I favour single coils and Strats...so a Strat with Apaches-an arrangement that I am more than happy with.
-
my Les Paul with the Abraxas set - similar to the Mules I love so much, but with just enough extra juice on the bridge pickup while retaining the same kind of tone.
-
Prolly Cold Sweats as long as they fit the guitar.
-
haven't tried enough to say... i've only got the MM/CS set, and for the wide range of stuff I play, it's not really versatile enough. Not a complaint, they work well for what i wanted, but i got that set in my legra because I knew I didn't only have one guitar, kind of thing. :)

+1 Les paul, With Cold Sweats is my choice.
-
Mules. Obviously!
-
Probably I'd chose my Amber LIon with Miracle Man bridge and Mule neck
might be tempted to swap the Mule to a Cold Sweat Neck or a Mississippi Queen

its not necessarily my 'number one' (actually my number two), but if i can just have one guitar it has to be my white steinberger GP:

it has a miracle man set, which is my 2nd favourite bkp set.
the mule is my favourite bkp set, and my '84 "johnny winter" flying V is rapidly becoming my 'number one'

REBEL YELL/LP STANDARD!!!!!!!!!
-
that would be a gibson les paul custom with a cold sweat set :D
not no original custom yet :(
-
My favourite BKPs (of the ones I've owned so far) are the Cold Sweats.
But if I could only keep one guitar, it wouldn't be the one they're currently in. Might have to get something custom.

Jazz box / Archtop + B.K.P. 'Manhattans' = sorted ... 8)
-
I'm tempted to say my Pig 90/MQs but maybe with a slightly hotter MQ neck so that the gain level is about the same as the bridge.
Mules are good (and versatile) but I think I prefer the p90s now. Plus they're just as versatile.

Ho hum...
I'm a strat kinda guy, so if I was only allowed one guitar... purely on the look and feel of the thing, it would have to be me strat...
But, if I was being sensible, practical, etc... (and this, therefore, is my choice in this hypothetical scenario/thread )
Them Yardbirds in my 60s style Fender Japan Custom Tele.
She do it all and she so easy to play... :D recently all the recordings I've been working on, I pick up other guitars, try them out, record takes... and eventually I reach for the black tele (Iris), to see what she does... and it turns out she's the one, yet again...
(but, if I ever do reach that tear-jerking day when I must walk out of here with one guitar only, it would probably be the strat (Edith) and it would matter not wot BKPs were in her at the time...)
-

I think that would be my choice too, but not quite sure.
I would really like to get a good bit of play time on a RY set in LP standard and twiddle with heights etc
-
Easy!!!
My new Tele, NB/MQ!!
-
If I only had one guitar I'd have to buy a few more! However if I'm answering this seriously it would be a toss up between an Emerald equiped Les Paul Custom and a 62 Strat with A5 Apaches. Tough choice, bit overall I think the Strat is more versatile.
-
My legra, PK'd.
The best for the metal style I need it for and good enough for cleans etc.
-
Patrick Eggle Berlin 22HT with Nailbombs.
-
My Gibson '76 Custom 3pu with maple neck, Mule Neck, MQ or SM(4con, AIII) middle and VHII bridge.
