Title: GSP1101 high gain tones - your opinions please !
Post by: hamfist on June 08, 2009, 02:16:50 PM
I seem to be getting the best tones out of my GSP1101 when running it through an EL34 amp and into a guitar cabinet, but also I want to develop some good patches for recording direct too.
Here's three high gain patches I've been working on this afternoon for recording direct into the computer. I have a definate favourite. In contrast, I also think one of them sounds rather artificial. I'd be interested in people's thoughts  .... also about the amount of high end. I have a tendency to make my high gain tones rather too bright. I don't think I have here, but would like some confirmation.

the 5150 sounds a bit muffled, or i would prefer that. got to go with the dual rec then :)

I liked the 5150 (through my laptop speakers that is). The SLO sounds "further away" than the other two. The Rec is lacking the crunch I like on the 5150.

Maybe 5150 with a tad of scoop in the mids?

I have very bad speakers...but,i agree with the others  :)!To have the "chuga-chuga",it must be between 5150 and the Recto.I prefer the 5150 (even if he is a bit muffled indeed) because it stays "clean" with his crunch  :?  PS:SLO is not doing it.

OK, It seems I over-compensated with rolling off the high end. Here's my second attempts, taking your comments into consideration !

I have to say, I think the 5150 is in a class of it's own.

+1

Sounds as if it would come from a different, better unit.

I think SLO is my favourite. They all sound pretty good for direct though.

How much are these GSP1101s?

5150 sounds best - it's the low mids.  Sounds like you've EQ'd a boost around 200Hz-400Hz ???

I haven't EQ'ed that, but it seems to be a combination of that particular amp and cab model together.
The 5150 amp model doesn't sound anywhere near as good through any other cab model in the GSP. Similarly, I don't love that particular cab model with other amp models.

How much are these GSP1101s?

Exactly the same tones from the RP500 though (£219 from GAK), just a little less functionality than the Rack-mounted GSP.

good tip! that thing /looks/ cheap and low end though.! digitech need to work on their styling. if they sound good now, they should stop looking so plastic-fantastic.
