Atmospheric rock veterans ANATHEMA will add a touch of class to this year's DAMNATION FESTIVAL while UK sludge standard bearers MANATEES will guarantee the bill remains heavier than a skip full of bricks.
Liverpool's Anathema - who have just completed a Latin America tour in support of their latest release 'Hindsight' - will make their long-awaited debut at the UK's finest metal event when they take to the Jagermeister Stage in Leeds on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
For those less in favour of soothing melodies there's a prospect of Manatees' powerful, raw, progressive sludge to contend with following the release of their jaw-dropping 'Icarus, The Sunclimber' album.
Festival Director Gavin McInally said: "Unsurprisingly, Anathema are a much sought-after band and we're delighted that they agreed to play Damnation this year.
"With Therapy? already confirmed for the Jagermeister Stage it's a great double-billing for our heavy rock fans who support the event.
"While Manatees will bring to the mix their blend of soul-crushing progressive sludge in what is shaping up to be our most eclectic line-up yet."
Damnation Festival will take place on Saturday, October 24 at Leeds University Union.
Bands already confirmed for the event are: Therapy? Anathema, Entombed, Rotting Christ, Mistress, This Will Destroy You, A Storm of Light, Extreme Noise Terror, Minsk, Manatees, Stand-Up Guy.
Headliners and more bands to be announced.
Tickets are priced at £29.50 (stbf) and available from http://www.leedstickets.com/ , http://www.ticketline.co.uk/ and http://www.seetickets.co.uk/
Tickets are also on sale in Leeds at stores including Crash and Jumbo.

Don't Manowar say they wont come to the UK? some cr@p about the UK being the best or something silly.
Looks good though NFE! Might come this time... might be back into gig shooting for Leeds Music Scene again by then, too.
I miss going to 3 gigs a week :(
-
They would come to the UK, but they ask for truly colossal amounts of money.
Not that Damnation Festival would book them anyway :P
Cheers! And if you are shooting again, gives a shout about it nearer the time.

They'll be joined by Stoke-On-Trent's sludge veterans CHARGER in creating chaos over three stages at Leeds University Union on Saturday, October 24.
And Destruction are looking forward to thrashing Leeds, they said: "Destruction looks forward to playing at Damnation Festival in October.
"This festival appearance will be Destruction's first and maybe only UK show in the year 2009.
"This is why the band is especially excited about bringing back their Thrash Anthems to Great Britain and hope to see all their fans there!"
The trio will further add diversity to a bill which already includes Therapy?, Rotting Christ, This Will Destroy You and a farewell show from the mighty Mistress.
And according to Negura Bunget's, Negru, their UK exclusive performance at Damnation will be a special event.

DAMNATION FESTIVAL is proud to announce experimental metallers JESU as the headliner of the devastatingly eclectic Rock Sound Stage.
And the diverse bill will be round off by rising Belfast post-rock outfit AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR and England's brightest post-metal hope, RINOA.
Jesu will top the bill which already includes This Will Destroy You, A Storm of Light, Minsk, Manatees and Stand-Up Guy.
Rock Sound editor Darren Taylor said: “We’re psyched about this year’s line-up on the Rock Sound stage – Damnation and Rock Sound have brought together some of the most innovative and exciting bands you’ll see playing on the same stage.
"We’ve been long-term fans of Jesu, so it’s an honour to have them headline our stage this year.”
Festival Director Gavin McInally added: "It's no secret we've wanted Jesu at Damnation for years so it's fitting that they are finally available to headline our strongest yet Rock Sound stage which is crammed with experimental rock and metal talent.
"Some fans don't believe post-rock has a place at a metal event but the hundreds of ticket buyers who packed in to watch the likes of *Shels, Latitudes and Moutains Becames Machines last year felt otherwise so we're delighted to be able to push the envelope further this year.
"With this year's solid line-up the Rock Sound Stage is an event in its own right and we're sure that for many fans it will be the place to be all day."
Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
The line-up so far is: Therapy?, Destruction, Jesu, Rotting Christ, This Will Destroy You, Akerc--ke, A Storm of Light, Mistress, Negura Bunget, Minsk, Extreme Noise Terror, Manatees, And So I Watch You From Afar, Charger, Stand-Up Guy and Rinoa with more bands to be announced.

DORSET doom heavyweights ELECTRIC WIZARD will level the Jagermeister Stage at this year's Damnation Festival.
And the UK standard-bearers of crushing, down-tempo metal will be joined by the Conan-inspired slabs of doom delivered by Indianapolis' GATES OF SLUMBER.
The skull-scr@pingly heavy combo are added to a bill which already includes Therapy?, Destruction, Jesu, Rotting Christ and Akerc--ke across three stages which will take place at Leeds University Union on Saturday, October 24.
Festival director Gavin McInally said: "From the very first Damnation Festival, Electric Wizard have been continually requested by the fans and after five years of borderline harassment, we're delighted that they'll finally play what promises to be a bowel shuddering set.
"It's also a pleasure to host the return to UK soil of Gates Of Slumber who'll bring their old-school crushing doom offerings to the Terrorizer Stage."
Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
The line-up so far is: Therapy?, Destruction, Electric Wizard, Jesu, Rotting Christ, This Will Destroy You, Akerc--ke, A Storm of Light, Mistress, Negura Bunget, Minsk, Extreme Noise Terror, Manatees, Gates of Slumber, And So I Watch You From Afar, Charger, Stand-Up Guy and Rinoa with more bands to be announced.

GRINDCORE supergroup LOCK UP will headline this year's Terrorizer Stage in what will be their only show of 2009 and likely the band's last ever live appearance.
The almost mythical extreme metal behemoth - which will feature At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, Anton Resisenegger of Pentagram and Criminal on guitar, Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury and ex-Dimmu Borgir and Testament drummer Nick Barker - will perform live in the UK for the first time in almost ten years.
And Shane Embury revealed the one-off show is set to be the last time they ever take the stage together.
He said: "LOCK UP has not played the UK since the summer of 2000 when we did a small tour with Poland's Decapitated - in fact the band has only ever done around 15 shows since we formed ten years ago.
"We have had so many requests over the years from fans to play again that we thought 'let's get off our arses and do this one last time'.
"So our appearance at this years Damnation Festival will be a total "7 Churches on vinyl or $% off!" exclusive show.
"This may well be the last show the band plays, ever, so don't miss out on what I hope will be a night to be remembered!"
Nick Barker added: "Damnation will also mark the live debut of new guitarist Anton Resenegger from the Chilean underground death metal legends Pentagram and Anglo/Chilean death/thrash band Criminal.
"Resisenegger replaces the late Jesse Pintado who sadly passed away in August 2006."
Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
The line-up so far is: Lock Up, Therapy?, Destruction, Electric Wizard, Jesu, Rotting Christ, This Will Destroy You, Akerc--ke, A Storm of Light, Mistress, Negura Bunget, Minsk, Extreme Noise Terror, Manatees, Gates of Slumber, And So I Watch You From Afar, Charger, Stand-Up Guy and Rinoa with more bands to be announced.

I would quit if we booked anything Tom Morello was involved in.
Did they ever have a release? Or was it just a couple demos or something before he left for RATM?

New York crossover legends LIFE OF AGONY will headline the Jagermeister Stage at this year's Damnation Festival with an exclusive performance.
The group will bring their emotional blend of heavy rock and alternative metal to the UK for the first time since their sold-out show at London's Koko in 2005 following a series of dates headlining festivals across Europe.
And they'll top a stage which already boasts a wealth of diverse talent inlcuding Destruction, Therapy? and Electric Wizard with guests and opening acts still be to announced.
Damnation Festival director Gavin McInally said: "Landing a headliner of Life of Agony's stature is a major coup and the fact it's the first time they'll play the UK in four years, makes it all the more special.
"After playing some off the biggest and most respected rock and metal events across Europe this summer, they'll fly in from New York for this one-off performance and we're delighted to host what is sure to be a special show."
Damnation Festival will take place at Leeds University Union, on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

Hey NFE, my singer was telling me that he knows you. John Loughlin ring any bells?
Paddy
-
From Raging Speedhorn?
What a band. Dire shame they called it a day.
-
Aye yeah, went for a drink with him the other day and he was telling me about Damnation. I said to him 'hang on, I post on a forum that the promotor posts on'. Small world.
Great band too, did their last UK show in the pub I work in. Was crazy.
-
Awesome, what's the band you're in with him?
-
Called The Rabhus. Still writing and stuff at the moment and we've decided not to play our first show 'til NYE.

AUSTRALIAN experimental black metallers Nazxul will make their first ever UK appearance at this year's Damnation Festival.
The rare performance will be the band's second live show outside their homeland and an unexpected treat for the black metal fans attending the Leeds based event on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
Festival Director Gavin McInally said: "As far as we were concerned the line-up was complete but after Nazxul expressed an interest in coming to the UK to play Damnation, it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
"We're delighted to be hosting their first ever performance on UK soil and trust it'll be one to remember."

can we get discount tickets if we're board members? ;)
-
Can you buggery!
None of our own board members get cheapies!
-
So this is complete and utter spam then?
-
Complete and utter? Absolutely not, there's replies from folks other than me, so get it right up ye :) That axe you're grinding must be sharp as all hell though, eh?
-
* There's no discount for forum members
* It's an event you're organising
* You started the topic purely as an advertising thread
That, to me, is spam.
-
Does it matter?
-
Doesn't seem quite right to use the board in this way to me? Other forums don't allow this sort of thing unless you're a contributor/advertiser, so I guess I'm just asking the question :)
-
Well it doesn't seem to be bothering too many people and (as far as I can see cos I'm at work) nfe is keeping it all to one thread.
IMO, it's not really any different to any of the threads that say: 'hey guys, I'm playing the Dog and Ballbag in X-Town this weekend, come and and have a drink if you're in the area!'. Not only that but I don't believe BKP are sponsors/partners/endorsers of any festivals so it doesn't step on their toes either.
Just my two penneth.
Paddy
-
Gigs at the "Dog and Ballbag" are generally free, certainly the ones I've mentioned for my bands are.
Nfe is using the board to sell tickets to his event to make money, that's why I'm questioning if it's appropriate. Tim and the boys may not care I guess?
-
Aha. You may need to logout of the forum to see this page: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=register
"Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum."
-
Whether a gig is free or not it is still an advertisement...
...and surely Seconds Out breaks the rules then?
What about luthiers on the forum such as WezV and Feline? Surely them posting up a link and examples of their work is, in a way, advertising? (and that wasn't an attack on Wez or Jon, I think you both do some amazing work but unfortunately you both were the best example I could think of to make a point).
Personally, I don't see a problem with nfe posting this up here. He has been doing this for a while and it hasn't been taken down by the mods as of yet. If he was continuously posting random garbage for gigs he was promoting I'd probably see it as a little different but for a one off event which is aimed at a fairly small market, I don't see a problems.
Paddy
-
If anyone official asks me to, I'd delete it all. I'm just advertising a festival that I figure some people here might fancy, with the high percentage of metal fans is all. Nobody involved in organising it makes any money, incidentally :P
But nobody appears to be taking the huff, 'cept you, obviously, so I presume BKP aren't fussed.
-
Guess not. I was just discussing, this is a discussion forum isn't it? :)
-
Yes it is and I feel it can be a bit too nice at times. Spice is the variety of life!!
Paddy
-
Exactly!
-
We Agree! A-haaaaaa!
Now bugger off you stinky bum poo-poo head.
Paddy
-
Nice to see some well reasoned debate and discussion on here, cheers for that!
Now go boil your pants.
-
Aye, we need a resident troll. No other trolls are allowed on the forum, just one.
Twinfan, you've got farty bum breath.
Paddy
-
I can't back the shameless plugging of shows...eh hem...

-
I don't particularly have a problem with it, but you are giving it the full sales talk etc
Jon is a BKP dealer I think, and is probably creating quite a bit of revenue for Tim
I don't know if Wez is a dealer, but I suppose he fits a few too.
How is Damnation fest profiting BKP ? :P
Its less spam than some people who have got 100 posts, but rarely post on the forum, apart from Seconds Out - only really coming back to show an ebay link.
-
Yep I do believe Jon is a dealer and I can imagine Wez is too. Makes a bit of money for BKP but I can't imagine it is a fortune.
Damnation is an independant festival and I can imagine its very expensive to advertise/book/promote/whatever. More power to nfe for doing it I say. It's not like Stuart Galbraith is coming on here and ramming Sonisphere down our throats (altho Sonisphere was most excellent).
Paddy
-
I have no problem with it personally.
Just throwing in the idea of why should Tim be paying for the webspace for Damnations advertisement. Does he get anything in return?
Also appreciate the hard work it must be to organise it, its just a shame I don't appreciate the bands as it seems to be quite a get together
