1. Tone is in the fingers.
2. Less gain and treble, more volume = tone.
AMAZING!

damn you hunter! now i'll be listening to UFO and MSG all day ;)
though it is a really good clip, i'm unsure if neck bending to get dive bomb effects is a strategy i will be adopting myself.

God, last time I saw him he was stumbling around and couldn't play a note. What a difference! He even looks like some of his hair grew back!
Nice to hear (if not see) Gary Barden. And he has Pete Holmes from Black 'n Blue on drums!

But you are not going to turn down your treble and gain? :P

Only if I can turn up the volume really high.

he's a MONSTER, when he's got his groove on. lets hope he continues with being sober and on top of his game, cos it's really sad to watch when he's off his mind on all sorts of stuff

Wow - that was great
Glad to see him on good form again
Also great to have Gary back in MSG - for me he is the true voice of this band
Compare the new version to this awesome version from 1981 with the classic lineup of the band including Cozy Powell on drums

in someways, i prefer the new version.. those neck bends still make me sick though.

Great vid seems to have had a look at himself since I saw him the last time at the Rock and Blues Custom Show.............that was awful and I felt for the guy but......... at least he's wearing sensible clothing again too

Sorry, but I found that kinda boring!

Same.
Never liked Scorpions, never 'got' MSG.
Maybe one day, I'll get it.

I've always wanted to like his playing but for some reason something never clicked
I just see loads of other people from the same era that have a feel and technique I admire more

His vibrato has always been the thing, for me anyway.

Thanks for helping me come out of the closet... I just don't get... it is really boring for me too.
I really LOVE the Scorpions more and more but that's and all the other MSG I've heard makes ZERO impact on me. :?
(BTW - I think Matthias Jabs is way cooler too)

The tone is great, for sure, but.....8 minutes to watch and listen... that was tooooo long ! VERY boring !
This video leaves me as cold as ice. PDT_026

Oh shame on you
Admittedly Lost Horizons is a tough example to use - a bit long etc
However I love Matthias Jabs so I wont argue there
Considering that Matthias had to fill Michaels boots to whatever extent only makes me admire him more

well, we discussed that once before jonothan... and as we agreed at the uli/scorpions concert at Hammersmith recently Jabs wasted Michael and Uli easily!

I think for some reason Jabs has never quite got over the "stand-in" tag, just because he replaced not one but two absolute legends in Scorpions. Even when he first joined they shoved him aside to make room for Michael to come back. And he's never written very much (until recently) which made him seem like just a sideman.
And somehow as a result of all that, I think we forget how good he is, so it always comes as a bit of a surprise!
On the live front he comes into his own. He's always thoroughly professional and not off his face on drink or drugs - whereas Michael has at least a 50% chance of not even knowing what planet he's on that day. And Uli, for different reasons, is also very much in his own little world.
The same thing happened to Tonka Chapman in UFO (the being overshadowed bit - he can probably outdo Michael in the constantly-ratarsed stakes!). Great guitarist, totally under-appreciated.

Michael Schenker has just released dates for a London MSG gig at the Underworld in Camden - September 16th

The only scorps album i have is the classic bites compilation, got to say that Mathias Jabs tone is awesome and he's got a very aggresive style when it comes to the lead work. But i bought strangers in the night on LP and its a league apart, Schenker on form is amazing for me he's got the mix of techniue and feel spot on.

Strangers in the night is an all time favourite of mine
Live at Budokan is also a great album for early MSG stuff
