Well well, this amp has a lot on offer. So I feel the second guitar wasn't THAT perfect, maybe too HiFi dialed in. Anyways, like this piece alone for the Plexi mode on the main theme guitar.
XTC100B with TC Nova Delay in da loop.
Single SM57 on 4x12 V30 cab in between cap and edge of the speaker about 2" away.
The first guitar is PlexiMode, VariAC on, plays alone until about 1:10, then comes the second guitar, BlueChannel, VariAC on top.
All with the Edwards Les Paul and VHII set.

Well, let's put it like this: The Axe FX is no doubt an amazing piece of High Tech. Well designed tube amps are amazing pieces of low tech.
I guess the big difference is how it inspires the player. The Axe is amazing fun to play and dial in, it really is. But with an amp pumping air and cooking tubes, it touches you in a different way, it inspires and moves you while you play. I think I play the modeler more with the ear, and the amp more with the stomach. That has become clear now.
I still don't let anyone bash the Axe, it's amazing alone for its effects, speed of I/O, A/D/A and opamp quality, and routing possibilities. The modeling is on top and it's better than all others I've tried... so is the XTC when it comes to amps by the way ...

Exactly. As guitar players, there is a lot of 'feel' involved and that can have a huge impact on the way we play. I don't sound that different when playing my Modern Eagle compared to a regular McCarty, but it puts a huge grin on my face and everything happens so much easier. Is it worth twice the price? To me, yes it is, but to others maybe not.
We all need our muse(s) :)

Thanks. I had rehearsal with the metal act yesterday and had some crushing tones happening. It's really a monster.
Today I have the Top40 band rehearsal, and I will run it on Variac, to have that softer/more chewy response and also a bit less volume.
