Yep, you guessed it.
Amplifiers.
Ive got about 150 quid, no higher, for Crimbo, i need a good, solid, smooth sounding amp and i dont mind about frills. Just something that will get the metal job done loudly.

You could get a Marshall MG series amp. I don't like them and neither do alot of people but with 150 that's the best you're going to get. An extra £50 would get you a good Roland VGA-3 which is what i use for practicing at home. Very versatile and has alot of volume behind it. Does the metal sound well.

I always thought you were American for some reason...not exactly sure why...

You can have my Laney TF200 65w combo for cheap, if you come to Cambridge and get it! :)
It's a valve/solid-state combo well suited to bedroom, band practice, and club gigs. One of the little push-buttons on the front got snapped (but still works) -- otherwise its all good. I don't use it much any more because a) I've been gigging on bass, and b) we have a very small flat and the missus doesn't much like it lurking in the front room! ;)
Honestly, I'm just looking to pass it along to someone who will actually get some use out of it. Make me an offer and cart it away! :)

Cambridge is like 20 minutes away, thanks all you guys for the help and stuff!
Ive very interested in all of them.... It just depends on whos still got their amps by Christmas!?

Go with an LC15,
great little valve amp, especially if you get the more recent one with the Jensen speaker,
i have one myself, old one but with a few tweaks like swapping out the stock speaker for the Jensen
-
Jensen? Mine came with a Celestion.
http://www.theflyingpiguk.com/acatalog/Tube_Fusion_Series.html This (top one) is £151
http://www.theflyingpiguk.com/acatalog/All_Valve_Series.html And the LC 15 is £166, I'm not sure about their shipping.
But the Laney isn't much over and I'm sure you could do some convincing in an emergency. The other offers here are also very worth considering.

no no...i mean, i never thought HJM was american you know?
I guess its just because you were young, played ibanez's and were on a John Petrucci forum - thinking back, I have approximately no idea why i thought that!
